oh this is a quick list of more movies i think you would like:
it happened one night
Z
the killer (john woo, chow yun-fat)
battle of algiers
chungking express bicycle thief
high and low
the fallen idol
the seventh seal
gone with the wind (bluray)
being there
Badlands
Night of the Hunter
That movie is a very unusual and interesting viewing.
I wouldnt really recommend Seventh seal btw, I liked it, but its not for everyone, like most Bergman flicks. This one felt like a theater performance. But yeah, especially as a Swede, it was quite interestng seeing this long dialogue.
Is Chunking express only Wong Kar wai flick you seen, or chosen that because you think its his best? (same with the Killers, cant choose between that and Hardboiled) Corious.
Dusko hadnt seen Fightclub and Seven, Mainstream block buster movies of the 90s until recently, so him not being aware of a 30s all time classic is not so suprising in that context.
Just seen Avatar. Really Entertaining Movie...Really creative by Cameron However, it has one or maximum two dimensional characters throughout the movie. It appears as if it had been cut because the plot is excessively simple.
I had more fun watching it than watching LOTR but it is nothing next to LOTR when thinking about it.
Avatar is a fun amusing very entertaining ride that ends as soon as you leave the movie theater and start reflecting on what you saw. The more time passes by the more negatively i reflect on it but the ride itself was spectacular.
LOTR gives a much lesser entertaining ride but the fun stays with you years after seeing it.
LOTR > Avatar against all movie critique criteria except for visuals of coarse. But in this movie and in this movie alone, Visuals deserve to be seen,
Btw, what makes you pick on a movie to watch? Critics' good reviews on it, its IMDB rating, what you expect of the movie's director and actors or what your friends recommend to you?
For me its a mix of all but usually when friends say a movie is bad i expect it to be good and vice verca. Imdb ratings give me a hint but the forum show me the different perceptions of the movie. I go to see the movie and find out which group i agree with, if any. Movie directors too count a lot for me.
For example, Watchmen was thrashed by all my friends...this means its probably good so i checked it on imdb and found an above than average rating. I went into the forum and found opposing opinions..
by looking on how each poster argues his position i can tell which knows what he is talking about and which is a spiderman fan etc.
I watched the movie and its one of my all time favorites.. atleast in this genre
I usually rely on friend's recommendation. After that I always check IMDB's rating. If it's under 6 I don't watch it unless the actors are good or if it's a stupid teen comedy with hot chicks in it, I don't care about the rating then.
Max Payne. I was a fan of the game and always thought i would of made a great movie but the people who made this really fucked it up, horrible movie and such a let down.
