Revolutionary Road is pretty good. From the director of American Beauty, the films bear more than a little resemblance. The acting rises above a script which is more clichéd than it wants to admit, indifferent direction, and lighting and a score which telegraphed everything.

Bad Lieutenant (the Ferrara original, not Herzog's new take) tries too hard to be shocking. I'm jaded enough that it just made me sneer at the whole tired effort. After the shock, there's not much left.

JCVD takes itself too seriously, but has its moments.

I don't agree. Wall-E's first hour is as good as cinema gets. All Up has to compare to that is the early montage in Up, which is also remarkable, but only a couple of minutes long. Granted, the end of Wall-E is a lot weaker, but on the whole, it's the better film.

I liked UP better :stuckup:
:p
The Bourne Supremacy - Very good sequel. I'm liking this series ver much. I'm gonna watch the 3rd part tomm,
I have to agree with Tommy here. I liked UP better than Wall-E, which I never got the fuss over. UP portrayed one of the most touching representations of a married life ever shown on screen. Wall-E was anthropomorphic environmentalism thrust onto a robot -- not even close.

Saw Up in the Air yesterday -- that was a good, well executed flick. Albeit better for people who do a lot of air travel.

Completely agree with that. Was disappointed with it myself.

In the meantime I gave in to the whole Avatar hype and went to see it last night. Pretty big disappointment.
I thought the beginning (20-30) min was more than ok: straight to the point, not too much beating around the bush. The moment when the lead guy wakes up in control of his blue friend for the first time was really well done. After that it all went downhill.

Some of the things that bothered me:
* The plot was even worse than I expected & clichés were thrown around like there was no tomorrow.
* The parallels with our real world were so obvious it was downright annoying. Might as well give your characters huge signs to walk around with.
* Unobtainium :sergio:
* Lack of heart. What happened near the end may have all been very impressive, but I just didn't give a damn about the characters.
* Despite a runtime of 160 min (which honestly was a bit much for this story) they still succeeded in leaving out key information, and as a result, some things just did not make sense. For example the Michelle Rodriguez character.
* Complete lack of humour, the movie takes itself way too seriously.
* ...

I also had the funny idea after watching it, that this movie would have worked better as a regular, 2D movie. The 3D was only really impressive in slow moving scenes, with mostly static backgrounds. As soon as there was some fast paced action going on it lost most of it's charm.
