Finally saw. Star Trek: Into Darkness.

I don't really see how people can complain about the story. It was exciting, well made and played homage to the original series, even though it told us very blatantly that this was going to follow a different storyline. Thought it did well to establish the exploration part of the series at the end and it may foreshadow the sequels returning closer to the roots of the series.

That said, I really enjoyed this one. The emergence of Kahn was great and Abrams now has a solid villain literally sitting in storage for use down the road. Really thought Cumberbatch was awesome. That said I think Zachary Quinto is a better Spock than Chris Pine is a Kirk. Gotta love the range with which he plays our half vulcan friend, how he displays the conflict between logic and humanity. The original series never really addressed that, perhaps it was due to a lack on range on Nemoy's part.

I won't say it was better than the first one, but it was just as good. Which is phenomenal in this day. It's going to be interesting to see what Abrams does in Phase 2 of this series and if he will continue to direct or pass the torch to someone else while maintaining a production role.

Do you think that's just a result of excellent writing, or is it something within Zach that brought it out?

I'm not sure if Abrams will stay with ST. He is a Star Wars nerd since childhood and I don't think he can do both of them at the same time.

I think it's a bit of both. Quinto does a really good job.

He'll stay with the franchise. Though it may only be as a producer.

Well said, as remakes go, Abrams hit the jackpot. I love the cast in general too, everyone from Sulu, Scotty to McCoy. Pine isn't most ideal Kirk but he is alright.

But Quinto is just brilliant, and Sherlock Holmes as Villain was just downright nasty, I just wish he got more screen time, got only like 20ish mins I think. Would like to seen him have dialogue like the one when he was locked up.

No idea who, but Shatner was perfect combo of hilarious camp and rash and forthright hero. Pine did a fine job, but didn't capture the annoyingly charming and witty part of the Kirk persona as well as he did on the hero part. But also the are going for another approach in a young rookie Kirk, so won't be as smooth off the bat.

It wasn't a remake of Wrath of Kahn. 'Into Darkness' is supposed to take place ten years before Kahn appears first in the original series and well before the events of 'Wrath.' FWIW.

edit: it's a Kahn prequel.

Yeah I got that given that the original Kahn was ancient. What I mean is that they repeated bits and pieces of WoK in this one. Anyway I'll just agree to disagree with the rest of you since I am the one who was waiting everyday for 4 years for it. :p 2009 ST for the win.

Couldn't sleep last night and watched three movies on HBO on demand I haven't seen yet.

Trouble with the Curve: Clint Eastwood plays a cranky old man, seems like that's all he can do in front of a camera since Unforgiven. At least in Unforgiven he was a badass. This tried to be a sentimental father - daughter coming together movie, but I think it failed there. Mt fave parts of the movie were with Justin Timberlake and Amy Adams. Overall it wasn't a terrible movie, but it wasn't particularly touching like I think they intended. I'd give it 2.5/5 stars, thought Timberlake was great, his flirty style reminds me a lot of my own.

Dark Shadows: Tim Burton film all the way, Johnny Depp, Helen Bonham Carter, vampires, witches. Funny movie, Depp does the strange character as good as ever. With any other actor this film wouldn't have worked. I enjoyed it. 3/5 Stars.

Moonrise Kingdom: If Dark Shadows was Tim Burton all the way, then Moonrise Kingdom is Wes Anderson to the bone marrow. He has a style and a vision all his own, and like every good Anderson film, it has Bill Murray. Great cast with Murray, Edward Norton and Bruce Willis, three of my favorite actors, plus a little Harvey Kietel. If you don't like Wes Anderson films then this one isn't likely to change your mind. I loved it however, and would give it 4/5 stars.
