Watched Hangover, decent but generic entertainment. Not laugh out funny too much, but a somewhat amusing wtf comedy. That chinese dude was ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS though, teared up :D Similar with Alan character, that actor has real insense aura hehe, totally unpredictable and weirdo funny. Similar with Tyson bit. But rest felt forced in its attempts, but all in all, decent mindless entertainment.

Yeah I read pretty good reviews of it, or heard good reviews. That the plot and character development isnt exactly Oscar material, but that its pretty good and overall experience is unique and epic.

Let me put it this way.

If you're the type of person that's not grownup playing videogames then you will be completely wowed by the CGI. The movies has a shit plot and a poor cast. Any critic that would gloss over that because it's pretty is a douche.

Have you seen it, or value your friends opinion that highly? Not saying there wouldnt be some truth to that, but sounds like an exaggeration. It has gotten decent reviews in overall from average viewer to journo's.

Epic as in on a grand scale? Yes
Unique? In terms of CGI Yes, plot no.

No Plot of Note
No Solid Cast/Character Development

This guy sums it up:

Cameron’s signature achievement may have been to prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the oldest of all Hollywood maxims: all the money in the world is no subsitute for fresh ideas and a solid script.

It's a tarted up version of dances with wolves.

I already know the plot and story is cliche and formulaic (except in space), that would be obvious if anyone known of this movie a bit as I have. So in that department I'm not expecting much, but just decent. The overall experience is another thing. Which I read good reviews of.

But the overall experience has to take those two things into account doesn't it?

Just watched Twelve Angry Men and The Third Man after being reminded of them here, they are in th top 5 greatest movies ever :agree:
Brilliant brilliant brilliant movies

I just have to bring the Welles' memorable quote in The Third Man once again:

Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.
