I wouldn't compare the two as Star Wars (I only watched the first one) is in a class of its own but LOTR are great to watch.
I don't understand why some people hate them so much, I mean, you might not be a fan of such movies, you might not like them, but you can't hate them and you can't deny that they are perfectly made

i dont mind lotr as entertainment but its hollow, it doesnt give me anything, star wars on the other is a true mythological journey with a lotta eastern philosophy and depth to it imo

seriously though i loved these films and thought they were visually spectacular. those who read the books as children will always find faults with them (as i did with the chronicles of Narnia series that i loved reading as a child) but the movies will always introduce a new generation of fans to the series.
i have all 3 extended special edition sets ready for when Cigdem comes to visit me

The first two were awesome, but the moment the cgi mass of dead souls comes on the screen ROTK loses the magic. After that its, a smattering of repetitive scoring and homoerotic imagery.
Yeah all the cutting between live action and sam and frodo looking deeply into each others eyes in the last 30 minutes. Caused my father to say out loud in the theater "I knew it".
