I wasn't a big fan of The Drop either. Quite disappointing, especially considering Mathias Schoenaerts, James Gandolfini, and Tom Hardy are all very good actors. It's another of those films where very good acting cannot make up for mediocre script and directing.

Did you ever see The Secret of Kells, Dusan? Irish animated film. I thought it was really really good. Of course, in terms of what it is.
The new one from the same studio just arrived on torrent sites. Song of the Sea. Really impressed again.

Funny thing you mention animated movies lol. I was just checking them out! I was looking at Antz, Coraline and The Iron Giant? Apparently all rated high on RT. Have you seen any?

The ones that you posted look quite interesting. I might give it a tonight actually.

Is Mud any good?

And are there are good movies that came out which are worth of watching?

By the way I watched The Drop a couple of days ago. Hardy was pretty damn great but I didn't like the movie, pretty meh.

Coraline is great. Neil Gaiman film if you like his work.

I haven't seen the other two. Antz is 10+ years old if I recall correctly? Came out around the same time as A Bug's Life.
Gonna check it out.

Yep, that one is oldish.

Aside from Starship Troopers. What the heck is that doing on your list. Totally out of place, isn't it?

I saw it when I was 13 in theatres for a friend's birthday party. I really just recall it being a lot of action and gore.
Lots of action, lots of gore, yes. It's a cult movie really, almost a comedy. I consider it to be The Evil Dead of Scifi as it's not necessarily good but it's got a very unique style.

Omg... I also watched Primer. I like how it was unique/low budget but I thought it was disgusting :p
Add Cloud Atlas to it's place then.

I think it depends what movie you're talking about. Scifi and Fantasy can be very close genres. Sometimes a movie will have elements from both.

A good example is The Time Machine.
Original or with Guy Pearce?

Easily top 5 best scifi of the last 20 years. But that's my opinion.

Oh and that's another good example of a movie with both Scifi and Fantasy elements.
I didn't get all the over-negative press for this one. I thought they did a very good job of adapting a book that was probably a nightmare to adapt. Is it an all-time classic? Probably not. But like you say, it's certainly one of the better scifi films of the last 20 years, especially of the blockbuster variety.

Some of the 60s and 70s Japanese Kaiju flicks are pretty damn awesome. With the multiple monsters, and alien masters behind these world destruction plots. Destroy All Monsters for example.

Original. Although the same could be said about the remake.

Cloud Atlas was nothing short of amazing. But of course the vast majority wouldn't know it if it bit them in the ass, it's not a superhero movie....

I used to like the old Godzilla movies when i was kid  You watch it today and you won't stop laughing abotu how funny it looks.

 beautiful. Although my favorite was Mothra just because he could fly :D

See, growing up in the 80's i must say my childhood was in a way molded by the Japanese and their movies/shows. Juspion, Changeman, Jiban, Jiraya, etc... They were all huge in Brazil, every kid loved that shit.

They were the predecessors to The Power Rangers which I'm sure was a success in the US.
