@Völler

I watched Force Majeure again tonight. It was even better than when I saw it at the film festival. I must have been "all filmed out" to have placed it in the lower half of my top 10 of last year. It's a top 3 film of 2014 for sure. It's so emotionally perceptive and subtle, even when at it's most detached. It's visually stunning even in those moments where it edges into the banal (purposefully banal I'd add). I really love the sly, prodding darkness of the comedic aspect.

Anyways. Probably wouldn't have given it a second watch without you mentioning it a few times in this thread. So thank you. Brilliant film.

Finally saw The Square. I liked it. Democracy is messy. Magdy turned out to be the most interesting character.
:D you know my stance on the magdy character (not magdy himself i think he is the lite version of the mb) but i actually felt sympathy for him through out the movie, however he is easy to deal with and you can actually have a conversation with, unlike the hardcore MB. over all i watched the square three times and every time it saddens me how unorganized the youth side was, add in the fact there was no true leader who could envision the future and in the process bring people around him to make the change that is needed ( some would argue baradie was a candidate but he not being a true politican never really jumped on this chance opening the way for the mb to jump on it and show him how a true politican would make the best of such an event). what i love about this documentary it shows how the youth and actually the revolution was sold by the MB even before Mubarak stepped off ( as much as i despise this fact, its politics and that's the difference between the youth who dreamed up all of this revolution and politicians specially ones like the mb who were a catastrophic opposition group and an even worse ruling class). the final result which this documentary predicts is that the democratic transition that followed the ending of the events portrayed in this documentary would lead to an authoritarian regime are pretty much true and ironically just a day before the 4th anniversary of the revolution all the members of the Mubarak regime, including Mubarak himself and his two sons are released bringing an end to this chapter ( doesn't come as a surprise at least for me, because it makes sense considering Mubarak would've escaped had he not been given solid promises he would not get the shaft, and more importantly when the institution collecting the evidence for his wrong doing is the same ministry of interior that ruled with a fist of steel during his era so its only logical he would be out in the free world )

glad you watched it greg

So I watched Interstellar last night. I honestly don't know why people complain about, nor I know what people actually expected, nor I know how was it ignored for Oscar nominations (which is pretty insane). I mean, what's not to like? Acting was pretty damn good, storyline is pretty damn good. What took the lesser part in the movie is music but it's not like it was bad or anything. Movie itself was very creative and just like Inception it brought something new and unique. Nolan did a wonderful job with this movie and imo it wipes a floor with Gravity which is a complete dogshit compared to Interstellar. So to sum it up: it's a great movie.

Funny cause music was actually nominated :D.

I agree about Gravity. Interstellar shits all over it. Gravity is one of the most overrated movies of this decade.

I think what cost Interstellar oscar noms was its hype. The movie was hyped to the extremes which made people dissapointed afterwards.

Matthew McConaughy and Anne Hathaway = :inter:

Aside from that, excellent movie.

Give it some time and then check out the soundtrack. ;) When i watched the movie i wasn't really paying attention to the music, but after some time i really needed to hear it again. Some parts were amazing.

It might be me since I was kinda tired when I started watching. But honestly that was a first movie that I watched where I didn't recognize Hans Zimmer music. I'm gonna search for it later. So I won't really judge based on that. I honestly can't believe it wasn't nominated, that's probably the biggest robbery of 2014.

I agree about Gravity. What a shit that was...

I could see why you say that about Anne, but imo McConaughy did very good. I'm trying to be objective as possible and forget about True Detective where was brilliant :D but I still think he was pretty good in it.

But I'm glad you think it's excellent. Your vote actually counts :D

Yeah that's pretty badass. We posted at the same time :D but yeah, chances are huge that I'd blame my tiredness so I missed some parts. Zimmer is my favorite guy next to Ennio Morricone when it comes to music. I'm gonna check it out for sure.

Oh and BTW: FFS... Here's my biggest criticism when it comes to Interstellar: Holy crap, I think that was the most annoying robot I've ever seen! like... Oh... my... God. I didn't mind the sound voice but his look? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? They should've stolen some robot from Star Wars instead. It looked way too retarded man.

Matthew McConaughy was amazing in Dallas Buyer's Club. And was very good in True Detective. Even films like Bernie; Mud; The Paperboy; Killer Joe; his acting was very good, so much better than that middle portion of his career in Rom Coms after A Time to Kill. His career has been on the upswing, for sure. I just thought he was prone to overacting in this film, and seemed to fall into some kind of weird mixing his more serious roles of late, with his earlier romantic comedy roles, and creating some kind of unholy and terrifying hybrid.

My only other problem with the film, and this is notable for me, as I am someone who adores long films, is that Nolan did a fantastic job with the first and last 30 minutes, but he seemed to unnecessarily ramble, and get a little lost in the middle part. The film could have been made a little tighter, cleaner, through the middle. At least, as the sort of film it is (it's not some sprawling, Tarkovsky-esque epic, so the sort of rambling, uncut middle didn't seem to fit)...

Still, I thought it was a very good movie.
