Sissoko Will Be Fine - Agricola

Juventus have confirmed that Momo Sissoko’s injury is unlikely to rule him out of the Champions League preliminaries following an examination carried out by club doctor Ricardo Agricola.

The Mali international returned to the Bianconeri’s Pinzolo summer training camp after his international tour of duty with his country.

The former Liverpool man picked up an injury during the World Cup qualifiers and he underwent a further examination by Juventus club doctor Ricardo Agricola on Tuesday who has confirmed that all is well.

“The examination went well and it revealed slight strains in his posterior muscle in his left leg,” said Agricola.

“The player has not complained about any pain and he will undergo some different exercises to the rest of the squad in order for him to make a full recovery.

“He will be fully fit by the end of pre-season and so he should be ready for the preliminaries of the Champions League.

“However, it’s up to Claudio Ranieri as to whether Sisoko plays in those games.”

The Old Lady will be hoping to have a fully fit and fresh squad available in order to get through the preliminaries and into the group stages as she searches for glory on the nig European stage.

Momo may miss CL opener
Tuesday 8 July, 2008
Mohamed Sissoko is a doubt for Juventus’ Champions League third preliminary round fixtures after picking up a muscular injury.

The talented midfielder suffered a strain in the back of his leg while on international duty with Mali.

Initial reports suggested that the problem was nothing to worry about, but Juve’s doctors are taking a cautious approach.

“The test results in Turin yesterday were good,” club doctor Riccardo Agricola revealed.

“But there is a strain and that needs to be addressed and the lad needs to undergo an individual training programme.

“Momo will be ready for the end of pre-season, but it will be up to Claudio Ranieri to decide if he is ready for the Champions League opener.”

Juventus' first Champions League fixture will take place on August 12 or 13 and August 26 or 27.

Sissoko has been somewhat injury-prone during his career and saw his spell at Liverpool marred by fitness problems.

Sissoko Set For New Juve Contract
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Momo Sissoko is set to be rewarded for the fine start to his Juventus career by being handed a bumper new contract. There was widespread criticism and uproar among many fans when Juve signed Sissoko from Liverpool for €13m in January of this year.

The Malian international, who had been discarded by Reds manager Rafa Benitez as supposedly not good enough for the first team, was tipped to be just another in a long line of transfer blunders from sporting director Alessio Secco.

However, Sissoko has proved many of his doubters wrong with a series of fine performances at the heart of the Juve midfield.

The 23-year-old made 15 Serie A appearances, scoring one goal, and helped the club finish in third position, thus qualifying for the Champions League.

Sissoko is now set to be rewarded for his early promise by being handed a new, improved contract. The player’s agent, Jose Segui, will arrive in Turin today to talk over the new deal with club directors.
