Surely the biggest mistake has to be Vieri considering how good he was at the time, how many goals he scored the season after he was sold and how good he finally became

IMO.....to become a star, you need to meet the right team, and the right coach at the same time.

Of course Henry wouldn't be the player he is if he stayed with us, because Wenger insisted that he was a striker, not a winger. Even given the knowledge that he's a striker, he wouldn't have made it at Juve because he would have constantly been lower in the pecking order than the management's old favourites :groan:

I am with Seven that selling Henry was one of the biggest mistake in our history. It was obvious that he had great talents and I still don't understand getting rid of prostigious young talent just after 6months. With hindsight, loaning him would have been better alternative. Considering our patience with Montero, Iluliano, et al, I still find it hard to believe.

Selling Zizou was a real coup, and with his transfer money we were able to reinvest in the squad which eventually surpassed Real to reach the final of CL. And who knows, if wasn't for Nedved booking we might have won the whole thing. And most importantly, it was nice to see a player leave with the club on good terms..

Moggi has made fair share of mistakes, but I do believe we did a remarkable job in the Calcio Mercato over last decade or so. He had a poor Calcio Mercato, but bounced by relatively strong one (Not fantastic).

what Davids asked for is still too much. Juve wanted to lower their wage bill. Buffon and Del Piero had their (contracted) salaries reduced to help. Camo needed a newer contract. Davids wanted what they all made at that point. That goes against Juve's plans. Trez barely got his improved salary a year later!

Dont get me wrong, I think Davids deserves a higher salary, but it didn't fit the bill. Moggi had the right to refuse to offer him the contract he wanted and Davids had a right to leave. it was all fair game, but when Davids didn't play the first half of last season, one of them went too far. If Davids didn't want to play, then it's his fault. under his current contract he's suppsed to work. this bihavior is unacceptable and i'm glad Moggi didn't bow to his will.

However, if Moggi refused to make Davids play then it's Moggi's at fault. (I know Moggi's a devil, but i reallly doubt it was this scienario since I'm sure Moggi wanted the good of the team. ... then again, he probibly thought Appiah would perform better...

So I dont know.... I wish Davids would have stayed for the team's sake, but I dont hold Moggi responsible.

As far as i remember, it was Lippi and Moggi who had decided not to field Davids, for the better part of the season. Coz the journalists quizzed them on the situation with Davids being available for selection and still not playing, Lippi replied Davids' fitness level wasnt up to the mark. It was their way of punishing him for refusing to sign the contract on the table. Think about it, Davids had made a demand for a higher salary, and Trez who came a couple of years after him was already being considered for a raise. Anyone in Davids position would make a move for greener pastures.

I wish we still had Davids!!! from what I remember, it was Lippi and Moggi who decided to keep him benched as a punishment, just as baggio said.

These are some of his mistakes IMO, but the real mistakes lies in the deals that never happened at all, for instance why didn't we get Mexes.

I'm anyways grateful for Moggi's work, as he ruled the transfer market for a good five years in the nineties.

I don't think Moggi has made any really big mistakes.
Selling Zidane was correct because he wanted to leave and for that money we bought Nedved and Buffon who have ment more to the club than Zidane ever did.
Selling Miccoli and Maresca is not a mistake in my eyes. None of them seemed to develop in Juve. Maresca has been here for ages and as he has not managed to reach the starting eleven yet I think it is time to leave, no matter how talented he might be it is obvious that he doesn't fit in Juventus. Miccoli could have gotten more chances but as we got Zlatan he is not really necessary to be honest.
Moggi is brilliant when it comes to transfers. He only buys players we need and always for a reasonable price. According to me the transfers is not Moggi's problem it is how we handle the young players. How many of these mega talents we've bought the latest five years have actually managed to become a star? Hardly any. Instead we have ruined (more or less) careers of players such as Maresca, Brighi and Carini. That is where the problem is.
