Kaka, was no doubt a sensational bargain infact milan should get praised for that. Clubs like Milan, Real and possibily barca have always have influential in bringing brazilians, this is merely down to their reputation amongst them. Theres no denying its twice as difficult for us to attract similar type of players. However one major reason as to how milan instrumented the kaka deal was solely down to their former player leonardo, to be fair if it wasnt for leonardo and his influence generally in brazil, milan would have no chance, this is the same case with pato. For us to become a similar club as milan would go against what we stand for, this isnt only down to moggi but also prior to moggi, we just havent bought enough brazilians out there and dont quite have the phillosophy. One of the main purpose being obviously the non eu status and there remains a risk factor due to passport issues etc. Its worthwhile, but at the end of the day kaka, worked out well for milan and to be fair we are too far and always have been far behind clubs like milan when it comes to attracting brazilian talent. In other words we have always been in some sense unique, milan has brazilians, inter argentinians, whilst we have always adopted our own mentality and yes this was well before we ever had moggi.. thats not denying weve never had brazilians or come thereafter argentinians but its just more of a tradition. Uruguyans, has been a different case, to a certain extent but its more recent than anything I think Moggi was trying to follow the example of milan and inter by building a base their.
Deco to barca, was not a bargain, infact IMO it was a short term one but barca lost out BIG time on quaresma, infact quaresma is one of the best out there and is definetly worth twice or thrice more than deco. Ronaldinho to barca, well ronaldinho had an up and down season, he was great but really didnt have the best of times at his club PSG, everyone knew he talent but it was a risk which is why clubs like man utd didnt want to go to the extreme in buying him. Oh how he has proved everyone wrong. However if you look at barca's status (once again with latin players) and compare that with us, we couldnt cope with them on that level. Robinho, 30 mil euros and I still dont rate him his a little bit like denilson, it remains to be seen how far his career will go. Ronaldos transfer wasnt down to scouting whatsoever (rather a friendly enticed ferguson to buy him), everyone knew his a rising prodigy, but theres always a risk especially when you some spend some good money on a kid. So the question comes all down to, do you spend some big money on a rising star (who with one injury could have his career almost wrecked) or do you go (in most cases) for a rising star at a cheap price. Not saying Nedved came at a cheap price, but it was a quick fix, when you dont have a strong foundation of kids in the academy, then all you can do is look out for cheap rising stars, and in the mean time dig out deep to avoid the loss of big players. Big for big. I dont think I need to explain this further. In the end it all comes down to whose got contacts where, influence, and the ability to take a risk.
Just to add one final thing, We bought a player who turned into a golden ball winner, a player who proved many wrong and surprisingly still remains our biggest player today.. its sensational to think, we could have got someone else for the same price and he would have been as good. 6 seasons at that age makes you wonder.. or maybe as bruce says the price is right.
For your sarcasm, Milito is 20.5 euros. We could have got him, and yes possibily even cheaper... We tried negotiating even during a time when copa america started.. I say no more
