I don't think anything irks me more in a football game than short corners. Even during the Conte times we played them and it was horrible then and it's horrible now.

Indeed it's laughable, especially when said skill is precisely finding 1 player to score in huddle of 20 players fighting for the ball in a little box, and doing it with effortless precision (3 corner assists in 2 games), that's decisive quality.
Even if I thought it's harsh too, since not all are great or calm enough at it, I could understand people saying it's easy or padding stats like to score penalty kicks (someone has to do it and it's the one who the coldest) , but when that blanket statement is said for all set pieces is when it loses me. Lazer freekicks and corners are super niche skills no matter who does it.

I support Dominic's concerns, despite my regional bias for Pjanic. He is a big, perhaps the main reason why our midfield isn't functioning well. For some reason he and the other midfielders do not complement each other. This has a domino effect on the performance of our attackers, mainly Higuain, who are not able to give their best.
To get back to the question I asked at the top of this post. I don't think that this year, with this squad and these injuries, we would have scored those 11 goals with someone else from the current crew playing instead of Pjanic. We simply lack quality. But half as talented player, who can impose himself and who complements Marchisio and Khedira better, can result with smoother play and more goals for the team. This player will not have Pjanic's 5+6 goals and assists, but if the midfield clicks, then our attackers' numbers will be much better.
We don't have that right now, though, so I'm wholeheartedly taking those set piece goals and assists.

Agreed with every word. Imo the answer will be, as harsh as it may sound, taking Khedira out of the equation next season. Just too unbalanced to play him and Pjanic together, the latter has the "stat padding" goals and assists, while Khedira is more replaceable in comparison.

His stats are impressive. But I have an impression that some of them came in "easy" games, when we already had it in the bag. I'm not sure though. But it's the exact opposite feeling to Higuains goals - most are decisive as fuck. If anyone cares to check..
It does relieves his poor dynamic and participation on team play. But be sure that as soon as he plays like a ghost again, criticism will soar, and deservedly so. His set pieces ability is relevant, but we need more from him, absolutely.

Khedira is fine FFS, stop over-exaggerating. Just wait til we finally have a fucken full team (for once) and get to use them in the 4-3-1-2 before judging. No doubt we need more quality in midfield, but this culture of "X player hasn't played well in a few games, lets sell" is insane. Patience people.
