Lmao at people bringing up dribbling as if it was something that determines skill. Dribbling is nothing but a last option, like a emergency move to get past the player where a simple pass could have done it, but you didn't have the support by either playing yourself into the stupid situation or you're alone and you got nobody to pass for. You can look at the Heung Min Son goal this season, he had so many opportunities to pass the ball forward, to almost breakthrough pass but never did and decided to go by himself, which in the end led to goal which is nice, but what an idiotic way of taking the risk of losing the possibility for a great counter attack.

Considering the size of the pitch and moving the ball being the most effective way of playing the game, dribbling is always a risk, a risk of losing the ball and if you lose the ball, it wasn't worth it. Sometimes it worths the risk, but mostly not.

The reason why sitting deep doesn’t work anymore is not because defenders are terrible, it’s because attacking play has become a lot more sophisticated and drilled.

Attacking play in the 90s for most teams was very basic. Hoof the ball up to the big man up top and have him hold it for the smaller quicker guy (second striker). Attacking play these days is much better.

Here’s the full game between France and Italy at Euro 2000 (I cannot find Henry’s individual highlights anymore).

A young Thierry Henry runs Nesta, Maldini and Cannavaro ragged.
Right.

Footbal' today has almost no one with the technical pedigree. Barely any really excellent close or long passers. Fairly little great tricksters. And I can go on for a while.

We got better athletes good at pressing and running. That's really it. Mostly defending evolved to cope with the decreased talent. Attack did the same in a different way.

You are a massive fan boy of modern shitty talentvoid football, and didn't watch a minute of footie of better times

Normal as a kid. But then don't make such an act.

I disagree with the reason for teams not sitting deep anymore. Attackers have gotten too good for that. It’s not a gamble worth taking, it’s better to invest on having fast paced attacks than anything else
Attackers are at an all time low. But their athleticism has vastly improved. And it's very hard to cope with that without great positional/anticipating defending.

Just check CL stats. Never where less goals scored from general open play.

Most goals are direct counters or dead ball situations.

Do you only watch Juventus?

Do you get any joy from watching Dybala play football or do you think he’s just another typical modern football? I mean, he’s not exactly that fast or athletic.

Nah, you are just blinded by nostalgia. The sport of today is no different to the sport played in the 90s, the players are fitter but the fundamentals of the game has not changed.

Im sure you think that music, movies, television, and food was better in the 90s too.

Dybala is an inconsistant poor man's delpiero, that tends to play as good as del piero did for his coutry.

When he's in form tho, those mazy runs, dash aways and left foot curlers are pretty great to watch.

I find him problematic to fit in a non "free form spanish style" football system. Should have sold him for a good creative midfielder or inside forward

This is the Khedira of post.

You put a modern day footballer, say a team made up of speed monsters like Mane Auba Traore for example, against a team made up of your romantic outdated players like Cryuff Riquelme fatRonaldo, the result will be below:

First half: romantic FC will probably score 2 goals due to their ‘talent’

Second half: romantic FC will gas out in the final 30 minutes, failing to keep up with the energy and pace of Speed FC’s players like Mane. Mane Auba Traore will probably create 20 chances and scoring at least 3 goals with sheer workrate, quantity, and strength.

So please stop dissing modern say footballers who put their body and mind through intense pressure to perform. Unlike Pele who sits on Brazil beach on weekdays and dance through farmers league football on weekend, and then pay journalist to write about him as if he is the Pope of football.

Dybala's inconsistency keeps being brought up. It was true for 2019 under Allegri, but this year he has been good in almost every game he played. He is definitely establishing himself as our star player and future captain.
He was crap in most of the clunch European games.

We can offcourse blame it on sarri. But he's not establishing in any way

Do you really think this generation of footballers is equal or better to those who were plying their trade in the late 90s and early 2000's?
Bar Messi, Ronaldo maybe Lewa, Neymar and Mbappe, no one today comes close to those guys.
