Signing Vidal and Lichtsteiner doesn't make you successful all of a sudden. Especially after spending the most money in Europe last summer and having a catastrophic first season. He still has to earn it.

If he can drop the low ambition signings like Del Neri, Borriello, Toni and Pazienza etc and have the ability to convince sought after players to join our team, I'd say he's good for us.

This team as currently constructed was not built to be competivie in the CL. It was built to get to the CL in the first place.


Therefore, we don't know what marotta or any other DS will do once the team gets into the Champions League (Hopefully)


And as far as signing the big names, you and I both know that it is very difficult to attract the so called "big names" when the team is not playing Champions League football.

My point is that no transfer director in italy is perfect. Galliani might be better than Marotta, but he has been in the game for much longer.

If the results are favorable, meaning at minimum an automatic berth into the CL, I can't see any reason for letting him go.

So, if you put a gun to my head and ask me whether I want him to stay RIGHT NOW, I would have to say yes. The results so far this season would honestly give me no reason to say otherwise. People want to constantly harp on the negative, specifically just blaming him for it, but any of the successful moves that he has made are due in large part to everyone BUT him. Sporting Directors make mistakes all the time, from Moggi to Galliani, they, along with other famous Sporting Directors and in other cases, coaches in the EPL, have made some serious financial blunders with high priced signings. It's the nature of the business. Looking for the Director who gets every single move right is akin to finding a needle in a haystack

I just don't see a lot of objectivity in this. I wasn't crazy with the hiring, but there was one thing that I had harped on in the beginning of his tenure when he and Paratici were brought over, and that is the ability to spot and sign young talents, and I honestly think that a lot of the players that he has signed have some serious potential. he fit the mold of a DS that I had been looking for once they went to Serie B, and that was trying to rebuild the youth system, and I think that he and Partici (notice I am not giving marotta full credit for this), have taken a very promising path in this regard.

The one thing Marotta was 100% on was bringing Pirlo (against Conte's wishes). I don't know if that's enough to save him... but it's important that the DG and the Coach bring their own ideas.

I don't want Conte in total control of transfers at this stage of his career. Hell, even Mourinho wanted duds like Quaresma and Mancini.

I dont believe in marotta's competence but i too believe it woud be too distracting and destabilizing to fire him if we do indeed end the season on a good note. However come summer he really needs to make bold moves and sign some proven quality players.

agreed, i was totally against his transfers the last season but he promised to bring better players and he did bring some important players who can easily be in the CL next season and if he add the missing quality in this squad then we are a complete team.
