As predicted, his presence was crucially and sorely missed tonight. He was a bigger absentee for this game than Dybala.

When was the last time we even conceded as many as 3 goals in a game let alone 4? It's no coincidence that we did as soon as he was absent and the special Rugani-Bonucci partnership was put to the fore.

WIth him out there tonight, there's no way we concede the 2nd and 3rd goals.

3 goals- this year: vs Napoli,
last year: vs Parma, vs Atalanta
2 years ago: vs Sampdoria, vs Real Madrid
3 years ago: vs Genoa, vs Roma, vs Real Madrid (4 goals).

We concede 3-4 goals a game twice or thrice a season usually.

Bonucci is a khedira-wanna-be CB, he's good positioning and an intelligent player, that's why he relies so badly in others defenders... his entire career
Exactly. He’s a fine defender but you can’t put him with a soft defender like Rugani. Rugani doesn’t close down well like MDL. Rugani went an entire year without a yellow card. He’s the anti-Gentile. Bonucci needs to be with MDL or Demiral period.

By this logic even Rugani would be fine with MDL. This tells us that both Rugani and Bonucci are soft defenders.

Yeah they’re both soft defenders - Rugani is softer IMO...like who doesn’t get a yellow card for a full year....You need one beastly defender to offset the softness lol. Or if we want to use a euphemism “elegance”.

Thats why De Ligt-Demiral , or Chiellini-De Light would be such a great partnership. With them our fullbacks can afford to go high on the pitch.

I'm obsessed with great CBs , unlike any other kid who likes strikers , i always loved defensive players since I was little kid , i would LOVE to see DE LIGT - DEMIRAL next season, but knowing our board I don't except it , I even think one of them maybe both are going to be sold soon, but one can dream .

I dont think any of them will be sold at least not for another year. It proved many times that we cant rely on Rugani. Chiellini is more injured than fit. As i said in some other thread if Demiral manages to overcome his injury he will bench Bonucci for good. He managed to bench our 80m transfer MDL. In the beggining of the season number 1/2 starters were Bonucci, Chiellini, then Bonucci MDL after Chiellini injuries, then Demiral benched MDL, and his injury happened. After regaining his form MDL is number one pick for Sarri, Bonucci is number two, once Chiellini and Demiral are back I expect Bonucci to sit on the bench where he deserves to be.

On the flip side of that is that two cbs that step up to win the ball can be dangerous at times if they dont pivot well. Like ive said before though MDL is such a well rounded CB I think it could work

I don’t think the board is that dumb. I’ll lose my shit if we sell one of them, especially De Ligt.

Aging players, who were class but not anymore, don't go down easily (Casillas vs Mourinho for example). They hold a lot of power in the dressing room. Coaches are hesitant to bench them because they know it can become a toxic situation.

Do any of you have any doubt that Bonbon will stir shit up if he's benched? Especially when he knows he secured a contract with a big paycheck until 2024.

Remember the CL final vs Madrid?

Bonucci-MDL is a fantastic partnership. Dont know why there is controversy to this, or a rush to Demiral start. Chiellini is 35 and coming back from a crushing injury, Bonucci is in his prime. It's clear who will start most games. Chiellini is (was?) Our best defender and will start some games, but it's pointless to have him play 40 matches in a season in his condition. Furthermore he will retire soon.

There are games for Demiral to play and rotate both of the starters and to organically arrive at the best partnerships between these 3 at each point of the next few seasons.

We are talking about 2 CBs that have less than 23yo, more than a decade in age difference to Bonucci and Chiellini. It is clear that there is plenty of time for Demiral and MDL to become the core of the defense, if they continue to perform.
