we sold Vidal and Pogba for combined 120m or smth like that + lost Pirlo to old age and Marchisio to injury. Thats all until summer 16. Youd think at least the Pogba and Vidal money is reinvested to replace these 4 WC players, right? Nah, we went for freebies Can and Khedira, 20m Matuidi, 30m Pjanic + scrubs like Sturaro, Rincon, Lemina. Hard to replace MVPP with the sme quality, but that was some very poor work by Marotta splashing on Higuain to have a bum midfield.
pjanic and khedira = bum midfield? also, bench players won't make the starters look bad. we had ogbonna alongside bbc, so what. remember pazienza?

i'm a midfield guy, i'd always buy midfielders above anyone else, but that was far from a declining team. bum midfields rarely play cl finals

let's agree to disagree man

Calling them bums is a bit of a stretch I agree but I think he meant those players just weren’t as good as what we had and that maybe we had the money to buy world class talent but chose the bargain way that worked for us before.

I wouldn’t call it a declining team but that’s when we began making bad decisions.

again, mvp was never gonna get replaced by similar quality. modric, de bruyne could have been close in quality, but they were out of reach. who exactly did we miss out on because of higuain?

we could have bought better midfielders, that is true, and the depth wasn't up there with the best teams. but let's not miss the point: decline is not synonymous with a cl final, especially not with a team that barely fits in the top10 of the deloitte money league. decline is when you lose the league domination against less wealthy teams. until 2018, we performed close to our potential. after that, we started to overpay bums, underperforming became a new norm, we cemented old players until the end of their careers (tici gave incredible contracts to bonucci, sandro, khedira, even mandzukic's last contract was rushed and badly planned), we started to gamble too much, left way too many positions without mid term solutions.

bad decisions happen with the best too, even real madrid bought players like hazard. if you're saying that we made bad decisions before 2018, of course, i agree. "decline started before 2018" is incorrect, period.

We had 4 attacking players + Pjaca and 7-8 CM's. Max tried every formation in the world im the first half of the season, but the midfield sucked so bad Allegri still decided to play a formation with 2 CMs and 4 forwards with 0 attacking subs.

A bum midfield of Pjanic and Khedira that took us to a 90 pt domestic double and CL final? Or Khedira-Pjanic-Matuidi that came close to doing the same the next season? Lol good joke bro.

Also, we didn’t lose Marchisio fully until after Cardiff. He was obviously still in the team’s plans until it became evident that he would never fully recover from his injury. And Tuzzers were still pissed when we let him leave lol.

17-18 team was fantastic and we had another great season.

And then beppe left after 17-18 season disagreeing with the team signing Ronaldo instead of rejuvenating the midfield, etc. Went and immediately signed the best young Italian midfielder at the time in Barella and built Inter into a scudetto winner too.

Imagine having the opinion that Marotta sucked here and built shitty teams here.

While simultaneously holding the opinion that Allegri sucked for not winning the CL with the “shitty teams” Marotta built here.

Just a big lol
i needed to channel my inner turk for this, and this is my best effort, so here me out:

both of those pezevenks were useless frauds. one of them is a shameless thief whose only aim was to destroy juventus and help inda to win, the other isn't even human. conte built one single team that won 9 scudetti.

I personally wouldn’t take him back because this club has to start moving forward sooner rather than later - but this is the guy who masterminded our return to the top of Italian and European football and we’ve been in a seemingly unstoppable decline on and off the field since we stupidly sacked him.

He held Paratici’s and Agnelli’s hand for years and when they backstabbed him and shipped him off look at what both these men achieved without his lazy eye steering them in the right direction.

Just to add that a declining Khedira was our best midfielder and his positioning was always spot on.

Khedira his first year, year and a half was WC player plus in his days in RM he was one of the best in his position.

Do you know that on short distances he was faster than Ronaldo?

Even as declining player he was still good CM.

Matuidi was also a player who was under appreciated.

And boy that man had an engine...

IF we could have them as young veraion from themselves Khedira, Matuidi and Pjanic (not saying Pirlo level) would surely rival and stand have their say against any team maybe they would reach the MVP level but only as younger versions of themself (RM and PSG prime days) there's no question about it.

From the MVP. Marchisio was the most under appreciated player..

If you look at Inter now, they have a very good squad with a lot of young talent mixed in with dependable veterans. Unfortunately, they only hire Italian coaches now that play boring football. I could see Marotta bring Inzaghi with him which isn't progress in my eyes.
