Interesting contrasts between this season with Max and last season with Pirlo

Last season
  • Pirlo hired with zero experience (I’ve said it many times but I don’t know what people expected)
  • Pirlo overachieved but largely in part due to CR7 and Chinese carrying the squad (no Dybala, defensive confusion carried over from Sarri’s season), discombobulated midfield, new experimental style and approach dacdically
  • Thankfully Faraoni gifted us CL 4th place for us but we can all agree that 5th place was the best we could expect last year
  • We were clearly not the strongest team compared to Inter last season despite having CR7 and Chiesa

This season
  • Better squad this season
  • More experienced coach
  • Typical Max style in slowly integrating and adapting players to his style
  • Squeezed out most points in the league for 4 months after Tek lost cost us ~6 points early in the season
  • Serie A competition isn’t stiff IMO. Inter got weaker, Milan incrementally improved but we had no excuses to win the league this season IMO
  • CL failure was jokingly expected but it proves again that we are mid club

Overall, the issues with Juventus are institutional at this point. You can fire coaches, transfer players but there is no under current of a plan. Just the same nonsense from Agnelli and co about “the project” and how winning is the most important thing while the results reflect are completely contradictory.
Better Squad losing the top scorer of last season? Injuries wrecked us as well.

Anyone who isn’t trying to push his agenda realizes the issues are deeper. Hell, when did we ever fix the midfield? That’s right, we didn’t.

Bad choice after bad choice and the snowball kept on rolling. But that’s not to say Allegri hasn’t really been underwhelming. He’s done a shitty job on his own imo.

I feel we’re lucky Serie A hasn’t got the competitiveness of the Premier League or the oil money. We’re lucky the best players and richer teams are elsewhere. We wouldn’t be able to leave the situation we’re in now. But these are all average teams. A little tidying up and buying the right players and we will bounce back .
We spent an entire summer to buy one midfielder in Locatelli. I am not saying that he is not good, he is and we need him. But him alone is not enough, not even enough for the league, let alone if we really want to aim higher.

Exactly. Not hating on Locatelli he’s a good player but he’s the type of signing we do when we already have one or two world class midfielders, to strengthen the depth. And we had that kind of money to do that!

But thanks to our management for allowing fucking Paratici to shit on our finances we have to play the great Rabiot week in week out.

At the bare minimum we'll need one CB, one capable fullback, one great midfielder and a Dybala replacement this summer. Realistically I think we'll be able to fill two of those positions this summer while buying scrubs for the rest.

I'm certain he isn't the right man to lead us back to the top especially not in Europe. You can praise him all you want for his previous run at the club but times have changed and he isn't what we need anymore.

I hope you are not judging him based on this season alone. That would be insane. Realistically, I don't think anybody thought we would win the title this year. Let alone do anything of value in CL. All these problems existed and became even more problematic when Ronaldo left, and Chiesa got injured. This season was 100% just pure evaluation for the future. Allegri will continue. There is 0% chance he will be fired. It's not even worth discussing.

Let's get one thing straight. We all support this club. We supported it during much much darker times during Serie B and after.

We are spending lots of time on a juventus forum for a reason. That's much more engagement than your regular casual fan.

We all want the team to win and to play well. We disagree about how to get there.

Personally I still believe Allegri can at least take us back to winning Serie A next season albeit ugly. Though I am less confident than I used to be in Jan/Feb. I genuinely thought we'd finish 2nd or 3rd and have some wins against the big clubs, and definitely get past Villarreal. It's gone worse than I expected.

I wanted him gone at the end of his last spell. Have stated many times for the last 10 years I do not want any Italian manager at the club.

Frankly, and unfortunately, I really don’t feel like we are going to win the UCL with Allegri at the helm. Even if we get the ideal players for each position, it’s the archaic mentality of Allegri that will continue to keep us from winning. Even with our dream team, we might reach the UCL final again within the next 2-3 yrs but not win it.

Hypothetically, if Allegri was in charge of the current Real Madrid team (probably the weakest in a while), I highly doubt RM would have even gotten past PSG, let alone Chelsea and Man City.
Similarly, if Ancelotti was in charge of the Juve side (with the clownish midfield), we might have achieved 3rd place at best in Serie A but in the UCL, we would have at least gone past Villareal and maybe even PSG.

Hope to be proven wrong.

So you didn't see him go past better teams than PSG with lesser squads than Madrid before? PSG is the ideal team for him to eliminate

CL is very far off now. I think we need to focus on regaining Serie A dominance first and then start thinking about the CL.

How did Pirlo overachieve? We won the league the season before under Sarri.
