100% with him on this one. I’ve always said I’d take talent over tactics any day of the week. And you don’t teach an extremely talented player, you simply let him do his thing. Of course a certain approach to the game can add (or not) to the characteristics of a player but most of the time it’ll come down to the decisions he makes in the pitch. A world class player doesn’t need a coach to teach him that, he makes the right decisions himself.
Well our first leg against Atletico last year was as if we've never seen them play before. Absolutely no thought for matching them tactically. But then in the 2nd leg, Allegri changed everything. And came up with some never before seen Emre Can CB/DM hybrid and we turned the tie completely.
So I'm not sure if he's trolling or if he doesn't realize that when he actually tries to be tactical, that's his best version.

From his time here doing interviews I gathered he’s always sounded like an old school guy that loves older football. Football changed a lot once it switched to the English way when players became horses on steroid. But I also think he got tired of all the tactical over analyzing and being questioned about it from Italian journalists after every match.
Imo I feel like he’s a guy caught in the middle of loving how classy and “freely” football used to be but also having a job as a coach in modern days.

I can't imagine how annoying it must be to get second guessed every match when there are so few things you can control. Your tactics are either the best or the worst based on small individual moments in a match.
Like it's the UCL final and at 1-1 the referee calls the PK when Alves pulls down Pogba. Then we win. Then Allegri is the master. His tactics were amazing. But if the ref doesn't call it and we lose, "lol another failure".

Don’t think they should be given that much credit tactically but motivators like those 2 you mentioned can of course make a huge difference. They can get the players in the right mindset, get them fired up so he can get the absolute best out of them, add a little tactical expertise and you got a potentially winning formula. Its why we had so many leaders through out our history.
I think there are many variables here and we can argue all day about that but in the end it comes down to the players and what they choose to do while in the pitch. A coach can’t control every pass, can’t position every player exactly where he wants them and he can’t make them aim in the right spots. He also can’t be blamed for every fuck up. He gives instructions, suggestions and trains his team a certain way but once it’s on one mostly observes and hopes for the best.
