If they evaluate that opponent is stronger than them, has better midfield area, then they concede possession. There's very little sense in conceding possession against inferior team. As our Max would say: "The worst you can do while having a ball is 0-0". This should be an accomplishment for us that a team, CL finalist from last season, decided to play counter attacking football last night. I've seen Atletico having more possession plenty of times, in Spain and Europe, but very few were allowed more than 60% against them. Few times during the game they tried to apply more pressure on our back line, but it created dangerous openings for Tevez, Vidal, etc...

The point is we can control the ball better and tempo with it, impose our game, unlike before, cannot be pressured into making silly mistakes. We looked like a confident team last night, one that knows exactly what it is looking for to accomplish. We were set to win the game last night, or drew at the very least and managed just that, therefore can't see why some called our performance disgraceful.
Atletico were defending an unrealistic 2-0 defeat. Why would they threaten you when they defended in much worse scenarios than that?

If they wanted a result yesterday it would have been a different story.

I don't think they defended any advantage in our first match, but still barely threatened. Their style of play was rather similar to last night and against any opponent they evaluate as a technically superior to them.

their forwards were harassing your defenders in the first leg. check the difference with yesterday's match. they simply weren't interested apart from keeping it solid at the back.

Have you seen our first game? We had more than 60% possession. We've always managed to cope with their pressure. The real difference between 1st and 2nd match was that last night we created more in the final 3rd, might be due to formation change.

The fact we couldnt best a team defending a 2-0 defeat and alloying.us so much possesion annoys me and at first i was annoyed that we settled for 2nd place as the Juve i feel in love with should akways try to finish first but looking back i think it was a clever performance from us we tried to score goals up until the last 20mins of the match when we realised we weren't going to get 2 we settled for the draw as just a 1-0 would of been pointless and not worth the risk.

They controlled us in both games, it's so friggin evident to see, difference second game is they had little to no interest attacking.
I didn't see them (Atletico) controlling in the first match, to me it looked like they were okay with a draw too in Madrid.

That said I somehow understand what you're saying, but Atletico put on some fight defensively and Juve were poor offensively and draw suited both teams without any of them risking much specially in the 2nd half.

I am glad Juve played Atletico in the first round twice, the outcome of these matches are very important because defensively only Chelsea, Juve and Bayern are that organized and tough to score against.
