They controlled us in both games, it's so friggin evident to see, difference second game is they had little to no interest attacking.
I didn't see them (Atletico) controlling in the first match, to me it looked like they were okay with a draw too in Madrid.

That said I somehow understand what you're saying, but Atletico put on some fight defensively and Juve were poor offensively and draw suited both teams without any of them risking much specially in the 2nd half.

I am glad Juve played Atletico in the first round twice, the outcome of these matches are very important because defensively only Chelsea, Juve and Bayern are that organized and tough to score against.

sigh.....we go through, people complain...we dont go through, people complain...Tuz wanted us to qualify so badly then when we do, debate about the hammering we will recieve...what these bitches want from allegri..somebody let me know!!
Who is complaining about going through? Defenitely not me, but describe events for what they were, what's the point of bragging about possesion vs a team that's not interested in it, and contained and limited us to basically one real chance over two games?

Juve's possession was annoying to some point, having the ball and not creating chances is indeed not something to brag about specially when you're playing home.

I'm glad that he's proving with each passing game that he was the right choice for our bench. I think that we can play with anyone on par in Europe. I've read some comments of people underestimating our defense, mocking it, grass is always greener on the other side I guess when various charlatans like Luiz, or Pique are held in higher regard than proven champions among our ranks. Bonucci, Chiellini, Licht and Evra are forming one of the best backlines in Europe, if not the best that you'll find around and that is by quite some margin; our midfield is wonderfully composed, one that is built to dominate possession against any team that we will face. The only issue that might arise will be our ineffectivness up front, the lack of clinical striker might prove to be too much of an issue in the later stages when usually few details determine the winner.

I think there are a lot of factors that led to it IMO.

1-In the first leg, we were still Contefied, so our formation and mentality wasnt the best to take the game to them and crack that def.
2-Yesterday, even when we had our best formation, we were playing cautious and nervous of their counters, as one goal would kick us out.
3.Llorente had a hell of a bad time with their centerbacks...and Allegri was not interested in using Morata to damage them, maybe because it could generate and unneeded counter?. IM not sure.

My point is that after a few scares while attacking them.... we realized it was not worth it to risk it. IMO, the team was too cautious, borderline nervous.

I would like to see a head to head against them now that we are playing a little better, and with both teams eager to score. That would be a better way to judge.

both matches were hard fought (at least till the last 10 minutes of last match) and teams had similar performances.

They are the best defending team of the world and the toughest on dead balls. We handled it well. I think we had a great first game despite the result.

What really hurts us now is the lack of a pacey LB and the lack of pace upfront. Tevez can't offer it anymore and Llorente is Llorente.

But I see us more prepared this year to face a big team. We'd have slim to no chances against Real or Bayern, but few teams would. Against any other team, including Barcelona and Chelsea, it will be a battle.

I think the main difference is that the team seems to be more confident now. You see less stupid nervous mistakes, like that of Caceres.

Bonucci had a moment in the first half but it was a clear foul IMO. He was pushed by the back.

We also badly need Vidal o his old form. But mainly we need more pace upfront. Morata for Llorente would it improve it well. But mainly Coman for Pereyra, with Tevez as a trequartista. I'd also insert Marchisio in for Pirlo, for better defending of the mid.

So IMO the most suited formation to play in Europe right now would be

-------Marchisio---------

---Vidal----------Pogba---

--------Tevez------------

Coman-------------------

------------Morata-------

I'd really like to see that. Even though it's not gonna happen of course. Coman would need more experience in Serie A. I just hope Allegri can consider this as an option during games. Pirlo makes our team slower and more fragile on defense; Tevez gives us more creativity for the buid up, Coman and Morata provide agressiveness and pace, that we much need. Some more verticality to the game.

I think we'd have been slightly more adventurous yesterday if Marchisio was playing. He's been our go to guy this season for stopping counter attacks and without him we probably decided not to take a risk. In the second half they were happy for the draw and so were we.

This would be cool to see. So many reference points in attack, and quick footed players who can 1v1 like coman, pogba, tevez and morata.

Defenses would struggle in guessing from where the damage would come. The only problem would be the age of morata and coman and their experience. They could crack under pressure in top clashes. At least thats the excuse i see allegri using for not pulling this...with some reason.

But i would give it a go against lower teams in seire A to try something different.

Instead of who? Pereyra? Pereyra had a better game then both Pirlo and Vidal..

My point yes.

Anyway, this year this team showed they can compete against the big boys without being embarassed.

But we clearly lack something to have a decent chance to win a matchup against one of the top3 or top4. Against all the rest it would be pretty even matched I think.

And this thing we lack I believe is more pace and criativity/dribbling upfront.
