How did we fare compared to Milan and Inter back in 2011/12 in our first season back on top? I don't know for sure but I think we were on a substantially lower budget.

I am not denying your general point that more money = better players and coaches and everything else = higher chance of winning btw. I am just curious about how we fared.
Milan had the highest payroll, they paid 20% more wages than Juve did, which makes Conte's first scudetto all the more impressive. The gap was reduced in the second year, but Milan still had the highest payroll. All that shows that Juventus earned where they are right now.

seriously? they 12/13 team was Udinese level.

and id say that 2012 Milan is an example of a team that doesent support your argument (obviously, since they didnt win, but there is more). names wise, that was an impressive team, but a very old and finished team. they had like 5-6 players playing their last season and retiring, they had Ibrahimovic and Silva, both in their primes and WC, and they had a bunch of mediocre well paid players like Abate, Nocerino, Boateng etc. in addition, heir season was plagued by injuries, so most of those veterans missed quite a number of games. on the other hand, you had a group of players here that were all in their primes still, or about to enter their primes. Gigi at age 33, Licht 27, Chiellini 27, Barzagli 30, Bonucci 24, Pirlo 32, Vidal and Marchisio 24, Vucinic and Quagliarella 28, Matri 27. also, no CL football helped for more rest, and we had no major injuries all year (compare that to now lol). still a great accomplishment by the club, just putting some perspective into it, to show how richest teams dont always win, arent always the best on paper, and how different factors can ruin a clubs season totally.

we were in kind of a similar situation this season, we dont exactly have half our starting XI on the wrong side of the 30s and 7-8 players retire at the same time. we also have more quality and depth compared to that Milan, but the situation is similar. we had a long season in 3 competitions (Napoli gone out early in all cups), we had tons of injuries ( @Hustinis signature says it all), we struggled to find the right formation due to form of players and difficulty to fit in the new ones. only difference is that unlike Milan, we managed to pull it off in the end :juventus:

I think Max's thought is Dybala will not get a chance to score 7 times from outside the box if he is playing #9 and has to pin the CBs to make space for others.

But Dybala has so much movement around the box and such a quick first dribble and shot that he could probably still get 3 or 4 a year but also do a lot of damage in behind the CBs that Higuain doesn't do.
Well IMO Max is a tactic lover so he could resolve that with a lot of movement between Paulo and Mandzo

Our management systematically weakens his team! First our midfield got worse, then our defense, now fullbacks.. just imagine AS, Licht and Asa all leaving in one summer!

But my argument is that there is a strong correlation between your wage bill and your league position, obviously there are two things to keep in mind here, first of all that a strong correlation does not mean in any way that 100% of the time the team with the highest wage bill will win the league, second of all its important to think about it not in terms of black and white, but in terms of degrees and margins. If team A pays 5-10% more wages than team B, thats probably not going to be a significant enough difference to make the former consistently ahead of the latter if at all. However when there is a big difference like the one between Napoli and Juve now, or more generally like the Liga where Barca and Real have significantly higher wage bills than the rest of the league, same for Juve in Italy, Bayern in Germany etc.

Another thing to keep in mind is that wage bills are just a proxy for squad quality, so you can and will have cases where a club's resources are so mismanaged that you end up paying high wages for players that are past it, inflating your wage bill in the process, while other clubs can be more efficient with their resources by developing young players or identifying and recruiting talent better than the competition. The latter strategy can't work forever though, eventually you are going to have to start paying competitive wages or else you will lose those players.

For me, that is why I admire what coaches like Pochettino, Simeone, Klopp and Sarri have done with their clubs, they have competed with clubs that have abundantly more resources, and in the case of Simeone especially has even beaten them in a 38 game league season. Simeone especially, its amazing that he was able to win the league in 2014, but it is an exception, what he did was an extremely rare achievement where a team wins the league while having a wage bill that is half of that of their competitors.

So happy this fantastic coach is staying. It means we have somewhat of a chance on the CL, even though it's a slim one.

But our chance is at the best it can be, with this man at the helm.

Needs to to work hard on attacking build up play, needs to be less cautious and find a system that works and stick with it for thr majority of the season.

Cut out the conserving energy shit and train us to destroy teams.

He is a great manager with some serious almost critical flaws but noone can doubt the silverware.

That'd be much easier would we keep our players for once.
