We barely press the opponent in their half anymore unlike previous seasons. Even when Higuain is pressing the opponents backline you can see that it takes quite some time untill the other players join (and often look confused doing so)

I just don't like this negative approach this season and grinding out 1-0 wins that much anymore. Counter attacking, absorbing pressure, 10 players behind the ball (4-5-1).. it's working but I doubt this is the way we can be playing in the CL.

both Khedira and Matuidi press in turns, along with Mandzukic and Higuain. Mandzukic at times joins Higuain and Matuidi helps AS cover the left side so we make a 442ish shape. then you have Matuidi upfront with Mandzukic covering behind him. same with Sami and Pjanic. basically you have one player join Higuian in pressing and the others form a line of 4 behind. its not working that well because we dont have the CF for it, Higuain tries but hes neither quick nor willing enough to do it

Neither do you

If you don't see the benefit a player who can do things like this, then I can't help you.
if that was him cutting in from the right side, he would have had a good shooting opportunity or made a good through pass to Higuain. instead, Barcelona doubled on Higuain, let Costa dribble (hes no threat with the ball from there), and left the least dangerous option open out wide. Alba was still in time to close down Bentancur

my ideal attack in the ending months of this season is Mandzukic-Dybala-Costa/Cuads (whoever is in better form). i think we will play the most effective with that kind of setup, with the midfield we have (or dont have). hopefully we will get to the point where we are comfortable to let Higuain come off the bench eventually

What? What game were you watching? For most part of the second half, we won everything on their half. Even all the second balls.

how good do you think he would be defending infront of the CBs? i saw him defend deep today, but defending wide and central isnt the same obviously
All he has to do is cover the same spaces as Khedira. When's the last time we saw Khedira make any decent challenges? Berna cleared more balls in the final couple minutes than Khedira did all match. Khedira is good at basically positioning himself in annoying spaces for the opposition. He does know where to move defensively, but he rarely makes an impactful play afterwards.

But no question Berna has to play more and we have an obvious weakness at RCM. I would at least try it here and there, what can it hurt.

I just think you can't teach Khedira to finish around the box but maybe you can teach Berna where to stand defensively. Seems like a good gamble.

Mine too :tuttosport:

Mandzukic-----Dybala-----Cuadrado
Matuidi-Pjanic-Bernardeschi
I can live with that lineup, as long as we aren’t playing Higuain and Mandzu at the same time. In this particular team, I think that Mandzu would naturally drift inside into a striker position.

But Allegri has already said that he doesn’t see Dybala as a striker.

what Sami does comes with experience i think, he naturally moves around without thinkering much. if we were to start using Berna at btb CM now, he might grow into one that can hold his ground defensively. i mean, Draxler plays as CM, Berna should technically be able to do it also, and he would have protection from Barza/Cuads.

dont think we should or will do it in the CL, but i see no reason not to try it in Serie A, if it can benefit us in the long run

It is so much different playing as a cm than a winger or a fb. I think you're being way too Football Manager'ish here.

Definetly wont work against the real big teams. Might get away with it against Tottenham, still.

It might be your own personal oppinion so I won't criticize even tho I strongly disagree with most of it.

If you did watch the game tonight, do not forget that if it was not for both lack of finishing and poor decision-making in the final third than this game could have easily been a 3:0 long before Roma even had their first clear chance at goal...
Exactly like any EPL, when the high pressure and tempo are in the optimus point of the game they created a lot and then if they failed their chances and the momentum pass they would struggle cuz stamina start to decrease without any doubt

High pressure, high tempo, out number rival in attack, volume over quality, our game have written failed in capital letters in europe...and he would say some shit like we dont have the same technical level of whoever kick us out UCL and the only reason it would be he chose to shut down the tecnique approach for a workrate performance

Its not just with us, but even in the argentina team they arent able to fit him in...he cant even get in against papu gomez, di maria, icardi and some other no names
Paulo talked about Messi position and it was enough to Sampaoli keep him out... nothing to do with the level of the ones u mention it
