Who's overreacting? Martin is one of the most important players in our defensive lineup if Conte didn't have a boner for Bonucci we would have seen more of Martin's heroic exploits and that's what we'll see this season.
Leo, even though he's obiouvsly a worse defender than Martin, had his reasons in Conte's 3-5-2, because when Pirlo was man marked he was the one that could play the ball properly to start the action giving fluency and playing the ball wide, and in Conte stagnating gameplay it was obiouvsly helping. He's actually been more useful for that than for his (awful) defending in Conte days.

I love Martin, TBH I did since his first experience here under Ferrara. My point is that (in a 4-man defense, or in the kind of 3-5-2 we've seen under Gonde) he should not start ahead of Chiello and Barza, just that.

If one of these two gets worse/leaves/retires, or Martin improves more in a clear way (that imo we can't judge from these 2 first defensively under-testing matches), and it's not unlikely since some defenders can get better even in a "mature" age (we've seen it with Barza), I'd love to have him as a starter.

Yeah, good match and very good player, but IMO someone here's overreacting. I love Martin, he's such a character and a useful player, but you gotta say that he's not starter material for us, at least as of now. He still has some flaws, especially concentration throughout the game. Let's not forget that we were barely tested in defense in these first few matches of the season.
He makes mistakes both less frequently, and mostly of less consequence, than Bonucci. Yet, despite what merits he has for playing well, he was always benched before Bonny. Quite frankly, if we keep up a 3-5-2 for certain games, and our entire backline is fit, Martin's form should earn him a starting birth, and it should be up to Bonucci to EARN his starting spot, for a change.

Every since Barza's injury issues started last season Cacares has been solid as hell. Love him. He should start whenever Chiellini and Barza return. He has played himself into the starting eleven in my book. Credit where credit is due.
:agree: He deserves a starting spot. Not should get a starting spot, deserves a starting spot.

If people bring up the mistake against Real, remember it was Conte who pressured him into passing the ball back. His obsession with possession was stupid and led to some incredibly boring footie.

Even Giorgio gets 88/90% pass accuracy every game, cause all he does are 5m passes to the nearest mid/defender. That doesn't mean he has great feet or he's a great passer. Martin has a lot of qualities but is not the smartest short passer, if you followed him in the last 2 years, even if he has a great cross. And we indeed need a sweeper in that position.

At least Cunte agreed with me and, the few times Bonucci wasn't available, played Ogbonna right there, who, with all his deficencies, can dictate the defense tempo and can long pass, and I think Allegri and every coach with a clue will too. But I still doubt that we'll play much with the 3-men defense with him.

I can't and won't disagree with you on those points, I just don't think it warrants guaranteeing him a starting XI spot if he hasn't deserved to be there; a defender's primary objective is to defend and to do so competently, Bonucci's brain farts drag him down greatly in the regard. If it were about passing I'd rather flog off Bonny to PSG or some such for $30M+ and use Marrone there instead.
