I've seen the game but it has very little to do to do with yesterday's game. I saw him only 5-6 times but no matter if he was playing for Barca, Juve or Uruguay, he was always doing that same mistake Red talked about.

5-6 matches are enough.
If a keeper has great reflexes and saves some tough balls, but keeps mistiming his runs during corner kicks and free kicks in all 5 matches you've watched that keeper, does it make him a good keeper or an awful keeper who'll cost you at least a goal every match?

You know, there are bad South American players too. You don't need to be the lawyer of all of them.
I know you saw the game as you were on the live thread yesterday and that last part is really not nice :D especially coming from you now i am gonna have to be mean with my retort lol j'k

so we're gonna sit here and call a 21 year old international DEFENDER(not goalkeeper) of a team thats prolly going to the WC crap without even the benefit of a few matches in our outfit? need i remind you of a certain criscito incident with totti? and in those 5-6 games you saw did he cost a goal to his team? yesterday's game was so pressure filled it managed to eclipse the world's best player; considering all these and other circumstances i say he had a good game and as the last sentence of my quoted post says he could very well be crap but i am not ready yet to staple that on him.

Criticism is harsh in this thread. I wonder if people think Chiellini is as dumb for his reckless challenges, mistimed headers, etc that he has done for the last 3 seasons....:shifty:

Does that make him a bad defender because he makes at least one mistake a game for the last 3 seasons? Some of which lead to goals or decent goal scoring situations?

IMO there isn't enough consistency for criticism here. Maybe its just me. Maybe I'm the dumbass:sergio:

how many of our distinguished panel tonight has actually seen the game, he was one of uruguay's best players second only to pereira. His career at juve consists of what? 2 games? he might very well be crap but hes not been around long enough to cement that crap into a label
He was certainly good in the first 45 as I said, but he does make really dunderhead-ish decisions.

Calling him the worst ever defender at Juve is indeed hyperbole.

That is hyperbole, or being so defenitive about him. But I have watched him since Recretivo, and the dude has good physical tools as a defender, but what Alen said regarding his tendencies is on point, he has shit for brains and is VERY nervous and shaky with his decision making in possession. Lets see if he cuts down on the brain farts, but dont be too optimistic, even if we should give him time. Its mainly he is just too rash and dumb (and btw huge wtf to compare Montero to him), not that he lacks qualities.

I watched the entire game and completely agree with Red and Alen that this guy is a shit defender, who is way too careless

Huge difference between chiellini and this guy. Chiellini was our best player (along side Ale and trez) that year when we came back from serie B. Was the best defender in the Euro's that year and italian newspapers had headlines thanking him for he's superior performance there.

He does lose it sometimes (not in every single game) every now and then but nothing like caceres.

Caceres have absalutely no sense of positioning (really one of the worse that i've seen). He's tough, physically strong and fast but as the guys here said he lacks football brain. I think that Ferrara have noticed that and thats why he's not using him no more (can't blame him really).....

I'm not going to say he can't become a decent player, but he has a long way to go before Juve should give any thought to buying him outright.

I would also say that I think he is too rash to ever become a top CB, though if he toned it down a bit he could become a good full back.

Chiellini makes relatively few bad decisions.

His problem tends to be that he is sometimes too clumsy to execute the correct move in the circumstances.

Relatively yes, but he does a lot of stupid stuff as well. Clumsiness was the Catania game and then you have the Chievo game where his mistakes were just horrible. The point is that even Chiellini does some stupid things but we call him our best defender and justified it for him. Then we have this kid who wasn't in our system for while, didn't get much of game time but we don't give him a break.

yep, made some decent stops on Maccarone
But only after he himself was caught out of position.

And I agree he had a better game today and I feel he has a lot of potential but we need to invest time in him, I'm afraid time we don't have.
