Juventus Put In Da Costa Offer The Dutch media are reporting that Juventus have weighed in with a 3.5m euro offer for PSV Eindhoven defender Manuel da Costa.

The 21-year-old caught the Bianconeri’s eye with some assured performances in the heart of Portugal’s defense during the U-21 European Championships in the Netherlands earlier this summer, but Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested.

PSV are not especially eager to sell the cosmopolitan youngster, who was born in France to a Portuguese father and Moroccan mother. It is reported that an offer of 8m euro would change their mind, however, meaning that the Italians would have to more than double their opening bid.

Juventus have identified the centreback position as the area in most need of reinforcement ahead of their first season back in the Serie A since being devoted to the second division in scandalous fashion.

After the signing of Jorge Andrade from Deportivo at the beginning of the summer, they have been frustrated in their attempts to strengthen in this position. Most notably Gaby Milito snubbed them in favour of Barcelona, while VfB Stuttgart have already knocked back several offers for Fernando Meira.

Seriously if we can sign him for about 5m euro we should do the deal.

JUVENTUS, Da Costa new defender?

Fc Juventus are still looking for a central defender and now they are observing the young Portoguese Manuel Da Costa (21) but it is probable to see Da Costa playing for Juventus starting from next season.

Viola pounce for Da Costa

Fiorentina have made a surprise swoop for Portuguese prodigy Manuel Da Costa of PSV.

While Juventus, Inter and Parma were believed to be targeting the 21-year-old defender, there had been no indication in the peninsula’s Press that the Viola were lining up a bid.

However, late last night sporting director Pantaleo Corvino agreed a deal worth around £3m with the Dutch giants for one of Europe’s rising stars.

Although born in France and unable to speak fluent Portuguese, Da Costa opted to represent his father’s homeland rather than Les Bleus at Under-21 level.

With Federico Balzaretti joining Palermo and Anthony Vanden Borre on loan to Genoa, Coach Cesare Prandelli had been looking a little short of defensive cover, but the addition of Da Costa is a huge boost.

The former AS Nancy man is expected to arrive at the Stadio Artemio Franchi later this afternoon to meet his new colleagues and complete the formalities and he could watch the Coppa Italia clash against Lazio on Wednesday from the stands.

Why are you glad???

I mean it's good that some Italians are returned to Serie A like Bianchi, but still I don't see anything good in our opponents getting stronger (especially Fiorentina and Lazio).

It think what he means is that Italian teams are bringing in some good players which is good for the italian league in general. Sure the competition will be harderd but it will also improved the competition. Therefore improving the sponsorships and deals.

Corvino does it again, he gets a great young centre-back for his team at a good price.

we however buy an uncordinated midfielder who cannot pass and pay about £4m too much in the process! :inter:

Cheers Mark.

It seems we are close to signing Da Costa. Well at least his agent has confirmed there are talks:

MARBELLA, confirmations for Da Costa to Juve
From our sent to Marbella
03.01.2009 10.28 by Marco Conterie article read 239 times

The latest rumors Firenzeviola.it collected by the withdrawal of Marbella, talking about Manuel Da Costa increasingly distant from Florence. The Portuguese defender, taken a year ago from PSV, apparently intended to leave at this transfer market, as exclusively confirmed yesterday by his agent. The candidacy of Benfica remains alive, even if it seems that at the end Da Costa will go to Juventus, looking for a central defender after the stop of Zebina and Knezevic. It remains to be see whether the negotiations will include or not Almiron.

Da costa is a very average defender, he could'nt even manage to make more than a single apperance for the viola! and this is the kind of player the supporters are meant to believe will close the gap with inter? If we sign him, it proves how pathetic the club have become under the current managment. For fuck sake were signing Fiorentina rejects! How the fuck can Andrea Agnelli sign Messi if he cannot even manage to sign the club an adequate centre back?
