Luigi Del Neri: 4-4-2 Not A Dogma At Juventus

The tactician is geared up for a 'challenging’ adventure…

Luigi Del Neri claims he will be open to trying out different systems at Juventus despite being regarded as a '4-4-2 fanatic’.

The tactician was named as the new boss of the Serie A giants last week and unveiled his plans for the future of the club in an interview with Radio Uno show 'Radio Anch’Io Sport’ this morning.

“Juve have picked Del Neri and know his style of play,” he said.

“But it’s not like I have always employed a 4-4-2 formation. I also used a three-man front line at Roma or a trequartista behind the striker, for instance at Atalanta or at Sampdoria with other solutions.”

Juve are allegedly set for a major summer clear-out after a poor season, but Del Neri’s view is far from catastrophic.

“I would talk of improvement rather than rebuilding,” he mused.

“This is a group of champions, although we must reinforce the team to achieve our targets for next season.

“It will be an important and challenging adventure for me at Juventus. And we will have to work hard to get credibility back.”

The likes of Amuari, Iquainta, Deigo, Melo etal can all do a decent job for a midtable club without drawing much flak but once they play for a big club aspiring to win the league they all would stand exposed with in few matches as happened last season.

Del Neiris for all his midtable experience wouldnt be overly bothered about these underperforming players, its the level he expects and all he would do is to organize them and try something different from Ferrera and Zaccheroni. The problem with this guy he doesnt have the charisma to attract top footballers, only players from midtable clubs would bother playing under him and Juventus have already suffered by signing players of similar calibre from Serie A and Bundesliga. If Juventus are reeling at 6th poistion by December and Amauri firing in to the stands its still a normal routine for this bloke....scary...

Overall any coach aspiring for a consistent top 4 finish must rebuild a strong squad...Currently there are loads of players in the first team with the loser mentality, its a mental block, unless they are all shipped out it would rub on all other new signings.

Del Neri: 'I'll give Juve credibility'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Coach Gigi Del Neri reassures fans he’ll “give back Juventus their credibility by targeting every trophy.”

Although he won’t begin work until June, after Alberto Zaccheroni has returned from a friendly tour of North America, the former Sampdoria tactician is already planning the future.

“As I said last week, the issue here is not about revolutionising Juve, but re-organising,” he told La Stampa newspaper.

Next season the primary objective of Juventus is to get back their credibility. We’re targeting every trophy, both in Italy and in Europe.

I hope this is something the Bianconeri supporters can appreciate and they shouldn’t be sceptical because they were expecting a big name Coach.

“It is an exciting challenge for me, as it gives me the opportunity to test myself at the highest level. It’s an achievement to be here, but also a starting point to get the results I haven’t done up until now.”

Del Neri is a particularly curious choice considering his famed 4-4-2 approach, which would find no room for Diego.

“When they picked me, the club knew my favoured system was 4-4-2, but that doesn’t mean I can’t change. I already adapted it for Atalanta and Roma.

“It will certainly be a four-man defence, then we can vary the system based on different requirements.”

There are fears that goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon could be sold to raise funds for the transfer campaign, as the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.

“It has been a tough year for him too, but I am certain he still wants to defend the posts of his beloved Juventus.

“I repeat, a crucial objective for Juve must be to win back its credibility and have the strength to believe it can achieve those targets. It is our duty towards the fans and the club owners. This is what being Juventus means.”

For me it gives me hope and appreciation to see him talking about all competitions. Its exactly what we should expect, I absolutly hate it when we treat europa or coppa like some useless cup, negative attitude, whatever cup we are in we should aim to win it.

If we manage to land good fullbacks this Summer then you will see another 4-3-1-2 formation, one that is capable of terrorizing the opposition's defense and at the same time keep our net at bay.

there is nothing wrong with 4-3-1-2 it simply didn't work for us as that was our only plan therefore we were far too predictable for our opponents to suss out and the personels simply didnt fit for the most parts
I agree 4-3-1-2 isn't a bad formation with right players but there's no way we can buy enough quality players to make it work during one summer
