Serie A Tables during Spalletti's Roma reign:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005–06_Serie_A

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006–07_Serie_A

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007–08_Serie_A

2006 - 42 goals against (first season)
2007 - 34 goals against
2007-2008 - 37 goals against
2008-2009 - 61 goals against

The numbers are pretty consistent apart from his departure season, and in his middle two years his side was one of the top three defensively in the league. Inter was of course consistently slightly better.

During the good years, his overall record in Serie A was commendable. But much of the whole "can't defend" argument stems from the European competitions where they kept getting trounced in the knockouts.

When you throw into consideration that these have been weak Serie A's over the years with Juve and Milan not being themselves after Calciopoli, you have to take these records with a grain of salt. Spalletti is an OK manager, but there are better managers out there. His squads tend to trend to the same loser mentality that he exhibits.

So... nay. We need better.

Haven't seen the game, but 3-0 is probably too much. Zenit played without 5,6 regulars today (2 defenders) and they are nowhere near full fitness.

I like Spalletti because he likes to play with wingers, 4-2-3-1, and that's a perfect formation for us. That and 4-3-3. Also, his teams always play nice footie, which is awesome.

I believe he'd do well here.

Yes to Spalletti, Klopp, Villas Boas and, I kinda hate myself for saying this, van Gaal.

It's a plus that he plays "good football". I just don't think Spalletti is the sort of manager to get us out of our current funk.

Yeah he does play nice football, but currently what Juve has been lacking is a manager who could give the team that extra kick in the ass, when they are not performing, I dont care if we play a string off dull 1-0 matches but are never in danger of getting beaten..So no to Spalletti and instead just get a manager who can do well with the transfers and has a champion mentality..
Capello,Mourinho..thats who we should be under, and if Inter can manage to get Mourinho, why cant we, We are the better, bigger and richer team..

Dude, he did the best job job with Roma over the past 10 years. His win ration in Europe is higher than Ranieri's (that ain't saying much) but fucking Capello's too. So that's bullshit too.
