Not to defend Windows or anything, but in my 5,6 years with XP, not once have I got a BSOD.

Ya right! 5 years and no BSOD, who the fuck are you kidding ?

I didn't do anything I just downloaded a sound driver from HP's official website and double clicked...suddenly a quick BSOD and a restart, you don't even get a chance to figure out what happened.

I'm serious, not once, I had troubles with degraded performance, instalations, viruses, etc. but I never had a BSOD. I dare to say in the last 2 years I had no problems whatsoever with XP on my home PC, perhaps some minor issues but nothing major.

I don't know what could be the proble with your BSOD, you'll probably never even found out, it can be a virus or something, have you checked?

i have never encountered a BSOD on MY comp EVER!!! i did see a lot of em on the comps in an internet cafe close to my place, cos the owner knew shit bout computers n hadnt even installed proper security on the comps!!!

Well I don't think it has a virus just yet, I mean its brand new. And have the basic security tools...But at the end of the day it's Windows, I won't bother myself with it, if I have any serious problems I'll just chuck it to the IT department.

I always had BSOD's with hardware, I remember I had a webcam that whenever I turn it on it will most certainly BSOD. And now with the sound driver. Hardware compatibility my ass....

lol, no I mean, as soon as you pop in a cd of ubuntu, it practically partitions your HDD for you and installs a boot menu (GRUB)..

I know that, but when I pop in the CD all I can use is the demo. I want to able to use the real thing, but I don't want to install it on my own because I have no clue about Linux and all that stuff.

lol, no I mean, as soon as you pop in a cd of ubuntu, it practically partitions your HDD for you and installs a boot menu (GRUB)..

Naw would Ubuntu be able to resize a 60GB NTFS drive and make it into say 50-10, then install Ubuntu on the 10 without formating the original operating system (winxp).

I know its a far stretch

@ Z: whats your situation? One PC and wanna dual boot?

Yea, I have the livecd. I remember I was on MSN with you and I put it in. I was using and stuff and I asked you why I couldn't see my stuff, and you said because that was just the "demo" or something and that I had to install it in order for my stuff to appear.

I have more than 10 but its one drive and one NTFS partition. Could NTFS be even resized?
