Another strange thing, I tried to update my drivers for the graphics card (for windows) but now it said "this update can't be installed on your computer". Nothing more, no additional information. It was the mobility radeon x1800 driver and I've checked several times that I really have that card.

so a couple of days ago, i was upgrading, and my desktop just froze....the programs were running, even the update, but then i cudnt select anything from the panels. so i let the update finish n i restared the X server. ever since then, i get the update icon on the Notification area which says:

t is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.

i opened Synaptic, which said i got 11 broken packages. so i selected 'Fix Broken Packages', and press Apply, and i get this:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-core_2.0.4-0ubuntu5_i386.deb: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

i got no idea what to do. so im just askin u guys before i head to the Official forums.

Looks like a major screwup by apt. It's probably nothing that can't be fixed in 5 minutes, if you know what the problem is, maybe google those keywords?

If you want to reinstall, don't bother debugging broken package managers, it's not worth your time. What you will encounter in linux is that some stuff is broken, you find bugs, you report them, you realize someone's already solved it, or they haven't and you're the first one to see it, eventually the bug is fixed, everyone goes home happy. The way of life.

The difference is that in the Windows bugs exist, but there's no way to fix them, because a software company won't respond to your bug reports.

Seeing the name of the thread and the thread starter together is beauty for the eyes.

V, there is a special program within Automatix that allows one to run MS Office and Adobe Photoshop under ubuntu, have you tried it?

Name Quick!!

@ Zambro, what happened with your Ubuntu adventure? and about your Windows question, this is Linux thread. Open a Windows thread, and good luck with getting support if any.:p

Na seriously, I would answer you if I had the answer. But I don't.

Nope, haven't tried it and I ain't planning to. I restrain from wineing things as much as possible, uTorrent is probably the only app I wine and use, if I'm gonna use Windows apps might as well use Windows, I'm still dual-booting. Besides, OOo pretty much does it for me and Photoshop I don't use very often.

But you're welcome to take a shot and let us know how it works. :p
