I read a lot about linux back in 2001-2002 and took the next step and bought me an original red hat 9 back in 2003. Didn't really get my hands around it, as I couldn't configure my modem, and broadband was basically non-existent in Saudi Arabia....
Fast Forward December 2005. Woke up one morning and went to get me a pack of cigarettes, and saw a magazine with a SuSE 10, so I shelled out $25, went back home popped it in my drive and rebooted....with no preparation whatsoever This time I also had no broadband, but went out and bought me an external modem ($75 
), of course it worked out of the box, and started a two month crusade (see it could be used in a non-religious non-war context) to understand this alien system....I believe I succeeded!
BTW this integrated spell checker in Edgy is gr8!!

Ok, I compiled my new kernel (2.6.18.2), based on the the howtoforge article Martin provided a couple of weeks ago. The first problem I faced, is that the webcam didn't work, I copied the same config settings of my older kernel as the guide suggested (the kernel settings menu is very daunting, any comprehensive explanation of it out there?), whats wrong?
Another thing, in the config settings, under architecture, I couldn't find how i could compile for 686 chips in particular, how could explicitly choose the architecture??
