don't try vista unless you're really curious what it's like. almost everyone who tried it removed it after a day or two, it's still unusable, no drivers, etc. it's only to satisfy your curiousity.
btw, i'm on mandriva right know, it's pretty good. as far as plug and play goes it's even better than ubuntu, it even recognized my printer, all hardware detected flawlessly. even mp3's, movies, all multimedia files play without installing anything. out of the box on a new level.
