After nearly two years of development, Pidgin 2.0 has finally been released! Originally called Gaim, Pidgin is a powerful and robust open source instant messaging client that supports many protocols. Pidgin 2.0 features a completely redesigned interface with attractive new icons and and a new status management system that was designed for optimal usability. Pidgin 2.0 also adds support for universal buddy icon management and smooth-scroll functionality for conversation windows. A comprehensive review at Ars Technica explores the new features in Pidgin 2.0 and demonstrates how to use the new D-Bus bindings with Python to make Pidgin's status system send updates to Twitter.

guys how much memory and disk space does Linux needs to run conveniently? Cause am thinking of installing either MS virtual PC or Vmware workstation and giving it a go.
I will either run it on my laptop or from an external HD

Does Ms Virtual PC even support linux?

The amount of memory is determined by what kind of system you run? 256mb is plenty for a non flashy setup, say ubuntu without special effects and so on.

So that other I need an XP pc to test out Joost, so I went to use my lil 10 year old bro PC. A brand new dell (well almost 9 month old). So I log in XP, needed to log on Gmail to access the Joost link, so I fire up IE. And guess what? The website viewing area is eclipsed by a huge amout of those pesky little bars, sweetIM, alexia...etc you know the works. Literally 75% of the IE is bars, and the viewing area is just about 10 cm below the screen. Of course I was ultimately annoyed if not insulted. I also discovered that he installed like 60 games, all of which are trials which of course loaded his system with spyware and adware. I DECIDED TO PUT MY FOOT DOWN!!

I got my fav CD-ROM, Ubuntu Feisty, pop it in and reboot. Installed Ubuntu on an 80 gig partition. Got a problem with wireless, but nothing that Ubuntu forums wouldn't solve. Then I downloaded automatix, installed the essentials, codecs, flash and Java. Opened up Adept (or is it Synaptics?) installed like 30-40 FOSS games. Then finally to get the ooos and aaahs from that little critter, I installed Beryl and gave Ubuntu a minor facelift with a newer background and an Emerald theme.

Then I got that little mofo and sat him on the PC, and told him look dude all that crap you are installing off the net is gonna get you viruses and ruin your PC. I got you a better operating system that doesn't get any viruses. It's basically the same, and you don't have to pay for games over here. Try it out, you will like it. He was instantly amazed with Beryl. But I thought that would wear off after a couple of hours.

So I leave him like that for 2 or 3 days. Then I walked into the PC room and saw him on the PC, so I was like "on XP are we." Lol he sounded almost insulted, "No I am not, I am on Linux." I asked him if he liked it? He said yes Windows is very slow, I can't do anything over there, this one is fassssssst. I was like what else? he said everything is better even the MSN messenger! I asked him even games? He said yes (well considering he is used to cheap games downloaded off the net)!!!!!

User friendly my ass!!

A big :toast: to my lil bro, Hamza :pint:
