how would you know? Sarri recently aid he regrets not signing Higgy, so they were in the talks definitely. we held out for his book value (50 or 60M, cant remember), while we accepted a loan deal from Milan. this happened only after the Chelsea talks died out

They couldnt afford his wages unless they took some off their books.
Bonucci was the easiest target as it was almost even trade

but now they needed a CB with low wages thats pretty good while we now had a surplus of CBs.

and there in lies the problem. we unnecessarily kept Barzagli, gave him 3M net wages. we shouldnt have had a surplus in CBs to begin with, but once that happened, it damn sure shouldnt have been Caldara to have been sacrificed. there are 3 other CBs on the roster right now that should have been on the out list before him.

Like I said we could probably have kept Caldara but would have been a big surplus if we took Bonucci. Bonucci leaving was the only way that Milan could take Higgy.
