Underwhelming mercato. I think it's a worrying sign that we had targets we probably didn't achieve. Also, somewhere I read that Marrotta didn't have the money to play with, but if that's the case, we wouldn't be on the cusp of the Iturbe deal at 30m to pull out.
I think we failed to achieve our targets, and I'm going to be second guessing myself here, but I do think Allegri seems more a yes man than Conte to have accepted us not signing any further player's as there were not favourable circumstances as we have come to identify with in our mercato approach. Conte wouldnt have accepted this situation if he felt there were missing pieces. I feel like Allegri could've done with a player or two more to enable him to use his favoured formation, but he just doesnt seem like the person to fight for it.
This team will soon need an overhaul, seeing as the core is ageing, and let's not forget, Pogba and Vidal are not going to be around forever either, if this window was any indication. Three scudetti in a row, and we are seemingly intent on doing better in Europe, but as much as it is wise to invest in youth, I just dont see how the likes of Coman,, Morata and Romulo are going to take us to the next level or anywhere close. This mercato was a wasted opportunity and has allowed the rivals to close the gap on us. Some haven't done enough, but I think Roma have more than done so, and will likely be scudetto holders in the year ahead. Juve didn't have many chances to convert big opportunities, but I would question our approach and ability to create something sustainable for Europe. The Serie a isn't going to be ours either. A 5.5 mercato at best.
