Lippi on the match against Siena
17 12 2003

Marcello Lippi (La Presse)

The moment of the last official match at Delle Alpi in 2003 has finally arrived. After the victories over Olympiakos in Champions League and against Parma in Serie A, Juventus is ready to play the second leg of the Coppa Italia second round against Siena, beaten in the away match for 2-1, thanks to the goals scored by Benjamin and Zalayeta.

For the game against the Tuscan team, Lippi will pick up Del Piero and Trezeguet as starters. “We’ll start the match with an important team which shows the richness of our group– Lippi said – We’ll face a team that rested last Sunday and that will be unwilling to lose”.

After the victory in the away match, the final result of the second round may seem to be certain but Lippi knows the risks of matches like this and revealed the secret to face the game against Papadopulo’s team.

”The important thing is to find the proper concentration in order to obtain the pass for the quarterfinals and use this match in the best way. We have to remember that an official match is always better than any training. So I expect Juventus will play in the proper way, showing that the bad moment we lived ten days ago is now over, both psychologically and physically, as we already saw on Sunday”.

Trezeguet will face Siena
Thursday 18 December, 2003

David Trezeguet will start the Coppa Italia game against Siena today after recovering from an ankle injury.

There were reports that the Frenchman could be out of action until the New Year but he’s been named in the Juventus starting line-up.

Trezeguet will be partnered up front by Alex Del Piero who has started Juventus’ last two games from the bench.

Boss Marcello Lippi has also decided to recall a number of other big name players that haven’t seen too much action recently.

Nicola Legrottaglie gets the nod after his shaky display in the 2-0 loss at Lazio. Mauro Camoranesi, Stephen Appiah and Edgar Davids will also start in the midfield.

"We want to get through to the quarter finals," stated Lippi whose side already won 2-1 at Siena in the first leg.

"Hopefully my men will go into the game with the right concentration because Siena are a worthy Serie A side.

"I’m confident that we have got over our fitness and mentality problems after those three consecutive defeats."

Since those losses, Juventus have beaten Olympiakos 7-0 and Parma 4-0 at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

Juventus: Chimenti; Birindelli, Legrottaglie, Tudor, Pessotto; Camoranesi, Conte, Appiah, Davids; Del Piero, Trezeguet.

Well the match is about to start. There's MAYBE 5000 people in the stands.

Turin doesn't deserve this team.

Oh wait, they just showed different angles of the stadium, 5000 people is too generous, try 3000.

DP hit the post after freeing himself well in the area (8th min).

Before that it was just Siena pressing us in our own half.

Rai Uno.

Alex yes ;) Conte in his best days was capable of scoring amazing and technically great goals. He's probably our best goal scoring midfielder after Nedved.

After 27 minutes of the match my comment is:

*yawn*
