Forget about the assists FFS. Asamoah could have passed to Vidal in an open goal situation and get an assist. Doesn't make him a world beater for that. It only takes someone to actually watch a match to realize how much more Licht offers upfront than Asamoah.

What does irk me is how about 90% of the criticism directed towards Asamoah makes no sense at all.

* Pointing out how Chiellini has to drift wide at times to cover (well duh, are you familiar with our set up).
* Hammering on about how he's not an LWB (does that really matter when he's better than 90% of "true" L(W)B's out there?).
* Adds nothing in attack (he does, if you're willing to see it, it's just nothing flashy).
* Only weak link on the pitch (yeah, I also hate how our left side is continually overrun & how concede 90% of our goals from that side).

1. Agreed, but lately he has been losing us possession more often.
2. He's not a LWB and it can be clearly seen. If you put a very good natural CB there, chances are that he'll also be a wall defensively and average offensively.
3. He adds far too little in a formation which depends a lot on the wings.
4. I wouldn't call him a weak link, but we would be far less predictable if we can offer some threat from the left side as well.

What i like the most from him nowadays in his athletism that lets him run the wings nonstoo. But other than that, he is not a winger. We could try to snatch a more offensive options justt ins case wee need it

Typically as a formation 3-5-2 does, but not so much in ours. Our strong midfield and now central 5 means most of the play goes there. Lichtsteiner just adds an outlet.

Every team has a level of predictability, if you take it to that extent. Asamoah can be completely left alone, Pirlo can do nothing, and Lichtsteiner can put every cross into the stand, but there are still breaking runs from Vidal, Pogba's pass or shot variation, the diagonals from Bonucci, or some intricacy from Tevez and Vucinic.

So no, we're not predictable other than to say the central area of the team is the strongest - which is a pretty good area to base your play and domination - and our variety of scorers and types of goals is testament to that.

Honestly, this Asamoah thing is the new CF thing, there is always something to 'improve'. It happens at every club.

The only players that can do anything to appease you guys from that spot are tricky wingers like Nani. There is no LWB in the world that can consistently produce from that area of the field while facing a minimum of 3 defenders between him and the goal (RM, RB, RCB).

If you are complaining about just assists, well, that doesn't make sense either because he had half a dozen last year while missing a month, more than Zuniga or Coentrao had in like 2-3-4 years combined.

People are starting to misread our formation now when they claim the wings are essential. They're not. They're mainly outlets and combination players when we are in the final 3rd. They are not asked to deliver the final ball. That ball goes into the central area for Tevez and Vucinic or one of our bursting CMs to deal with.

If any team is relying on wing backs to produce for the offense, they are in trouble. But even then, if you get into an open game and give Asamoah space, he has the pace and smarts to affect damage to the opposition. The only thing he struggles with is packed defenses but in that case, you're better off putting Giovinco at LWB because there is no LWB in the world that you can give the ball to and expect him to dribble his way through the box.

There is even a clear paradox on our own team. We call Lichtsteiner one of the best around but he had 2 assists last year while Asamoah had 6.

What I would be ok with is a more offensive wing player used as a sub in certain scenarios but Asamoah is a fine starter. There are very few around in that position that would be better. Zuniga and Kolarov are jokes compared to Asamoah.
