the problem here is that most people take it for granted the positives that a player brings and like to focus on the negatives instead.

peple love to focus on asamoah's forward short comings, but don't see the defensive work he does.

look at the 2 games where asamoah didn't play. ds, peluso, and isla looked lost and shaky. i don't feel safe on that left side when asamoah is not there.

fans of other clubs have a different perspective and tend to look for the positives in a player

It's funny how most Serie A teams of the season I've seen have Asamoah in them and opposition fans really seem to rate him. I for one think he does a brilliant job in his role as a LWB, completely locks his side down defensively and can be quite useful in attack some games. Needs to work on his crossing though.

His best game IMO was against Chelsea, absolutely roasted Azpilicueta and Ivanovic all game.

Asamoah is clearly a great player. One of the best at his position around IMO. He has only one fault and that is he seems to have a weak right foot.

People complain about his inability to dribble people at the edge of the box. First of all, very few if any fullbacks can penetrate a compact defense with their dribbling. But really, Asamoah's dribbling is quite good it's just that at the completion of his moves he will always make a move toward the touchline because it seems he's not confident crossing with his right.

But really, a fullback's offensive contributions are generally dependent on the amount of space provided to them by the style of the game and by his teammates. Rarely if ever do you see teams supplying their fullbacks in crowded spaces and hoping for magic. It's silly that people will complain that Asamoah can't dribble his man and deliver the ball every time. It's hard to do, especially in Italy. Teams are compact and they actually prepare defensively. They are meticulous.

Asamoah's best move is to draw his defender in towards the centre of the pitch with his dribble and then burst down the line with his acceleration. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it works against great defenders like Ivanovic in a CL match. Sometimes it fails. That is just the reality of the sport.

Is his dribbling as good as Zuniga's? No. Is he better at almost everything else? Probably?

Is he an absolute monster defensively and does he still provide assists despite what people say of him? Yes. If he's given time to pick out a cross can he do it? Yes. Can he beat his man every time? No. Sometimes? Yes.

He leaves little to be desired for a realistic person.

This part is so spot on: "... a fullback's offensive contributions are generally dependent on the amount of space provided to them by the style of the game and by his teammates. During Sampdoria game i realised how important this guy is. When he's on the left side i don't worry about it. Always does his job and we can rely on him.
Good post MikeM

Has anyone noticed that people in the forums of other teams like Chelsea and Celtic think pretty highly of Asa? I'd say some of them rate him higher than we do.
That doesnt accound to all members because i've been saying for months i consider asamoah the best defensive wingback in the world since he got here.

When you actually say something serious its spot on.

I'm happy to see others also see the great effect he has on our game, killing the left flank each and every game, pushing up the play, giving an assist now and then.

Who cares about him not beeing ryan giggs or ribery offensively, when he completely shuts down those players without breaking a sweat.

Oh and celtic fags, the final of the acon, is half a week before the return. you miss him one game at most

Winger or not, we are much more stable and secure when he plays LWB. I miss him like crazy.

And despite not being all that going forward, he's not bad either.

He's very bad going forward, he pulled three assists in the beginning when no one knew what his move was. Afterwards he was being read like an open book and almost all the balls that he had while attacking were lost and caused counter attacks.
