How useful was morata during city when he was on the left?
I posted this before. But people don't realize how much defensive work Morata does. He was our second leading tackler in the match with 4 tackles, had 1 interception and 1 clearance.
He also led our team with 3 shots, 2 on target, was tied with Paul Pogba for tops on the team with 2 key passes, led our team with 5 aerial duals won, 2nd on the team with 2 drawn fouls, and scored a goal... All while playing on the left, which was still his position after Dybala came on.
If you bothered to watch you would have noticed he was only asked to stay on the left defensively, and in attack he was all over the pitch, even in the first half. He was dead central like a Number 9 when he stupidly went for the ball from an offside position which made Pogba's goal not count.
The worst aspect of his game yesterday had nothing to do with his position on the field, it had to do with his rustiness from missing preseason, and that was his ball control. He had 5 bad touches where he lost the ball, and then another 2 times he was dispossessed. But that has absolutely nothing to do with playing on the left.
I would argue that because of his defensive contribution, his heavy involvement in our attacking game (however bad many of his touches were), his ability to go up and win the ball in the air for us, and his goal... he actually had quite a good match.
