They worry about those pumps when we used to 4 days of continuous rain...

    Of course they'll fail now!

    ...

What we feared for years has happened. Imagine if the hurricane hasn't shifted to the east!

    ...

Oh, and I was looking at the video footage from CNN.com that was taken from a helicopter and I actually saw my apartment complex, the gas station next to it, and the coffee shop that I used to study in. It's all under at least 12 feet of water. I recognized it from the roof.

I realize I didn't say "former apartment complex." I don't live there anymore.

Don't be sorry for me... I'm ok. My ranting here is more from emotion, disbalief and empathy than from personal loss. I'm the lucky one here who left 3 months ago, thank Allah.

Another unforeseen problem for New Orleans is the massive looting going on around the city. The government has declared Martial Law, and outside of the Super Dome there have been over three shootings because of civil unrest and looting.

To make matters worse some of the city water pumps have failed and they have stopped filling sand bags in high risk areas, thus allowing 9 more feet of water to rush into parts of the city. Believe it or not, NO is not even out of the woods yet.

got to love cnn though, they were only showing footage of black people looting

Glad to see some of you find humor in this.

    Assholes.

Not to compare the situation to the tsunami, because that was destruction on a much grander scale, but I don't remember people making half-hearted wisecracks about it either.

Some of us have a cousin who lives in the New Orleans area THAT THEY ONLY HEARD FROM THIS MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Sergio I didn't mean to offend anyone - my comment was merely aimed at the subject of looting, which is something I've had to witness a lot of times in my life. Be it after flood or a power outage or whatever. It happens, and, hell, if my house was being emptied out, I would empty out someone else's house too.

    Sorry :frown:

I'm not meaning to be mean, it's just not our requirement to feel sorry for you because of that. Fair enough, that sucks for them, I pity them, but I don't give a shit about how long you had to wait to hear from them or something. That has no impact on me or even this forum until you bring it here.

I'm not crude, I'm not being ignorant. But I had friends injured in the London bombings, I had people I hadn't heard from for 3 days, I have people lost while serving in wars, I've been injured in the last 3 years, My dog ran away a few years ago etc etc. I don't bring it on internet forums or ***** to people demanding something of them. That's a problem I have to deal with and help them if I can, that's something I'll have to live with, I'll have to worry about them. That isn't you're problem. I won't expect you to feel for me because of them.

You cant expect the world to come and feel sorry for you. And I have no time for someone who will demand something like that for something they weren't directly involved with. That's just offensive to anyone who really suffered.

Nothing was even out of line, couple of jokes that aren't in anyway ignorant to the dead. So don't over do it.

Though fine, lemme get the violin.

How to Make Friends on Forums, by jaecole

Playing devil's advocate: if you had nothing nice to say, then why did you post?

I, for one, feel very sorry for them (and him). I can't imagine the torture of having to wait to here if a loved one is OK....well, actually I can, but in different circumstances.

It takes so little effort to be kind.

    Just sayin...
