How to Make Friends on Forums, by jaecole

Playing devil's advocate: if you had nothing nice to say, then why did you post?

I, for one, feel very sorry for them (and him). I can't imagine the torture of having to wait to here if a loved one is OK....well, actually I can, but in different circumstances.

It takes so little effort to be kind.

Just sayin...
I wasn't being unkind. Had I known Sergio had friends there perhaps I wouldn;t have posted. Did I want to upset him? No. But point is, you look through any such thread and you'll find something. I'd see his point if there was something major here but there isn't.

And I still owe him nothing, I don't owe him my sympathy so how dare he ask of it?

I'm not meaning to be mean, it's just not our requirement to feel sorry for you because of that. Fair enough, that sucks for them, I pity them, but I don't give a shit about how long you had to wait to hear from them or something. That has no impact on me or even this forum until you bring it here.

I'm not crude, I'm not being ignorant. But I had friends injured in the London bombings, I had people I hadn't heard from for 3 days, I have people lost while serving in wars, I've been injured in the last 3 years, My dog ran away a few years ago etc etc. I don't bring it on internet forums or ***** to people demanding something of them. That's a problem I have to deal with and help them if I can, that's something I'll have to live with, I'll have to worry about them. That isn't you're problem. I won't expect you to feel for me because of them.

You cant expect the world to come and feel sorry for you. And I have no time for someone who will demand something like that for something they weren't directly involved with. That's just offensive to anyone who really suffered.

Nothing was even out of line, couple of jokes that aren't in anyway ignorant to the dead. So don't over do it.

Though fine, lemme get the violin.
Did I ask for any of your pity??

Absolutely not. Don't want it, Don't need it.

However, how would you have felt if you saw some posts on here that you may have construed as being out of line towards the London Bombings? Especially knowing that the event in question had a direct effect on your loved ones?

Did I come on here and say "Oh poor me, I have family that may have been affected by the hurricane. Please bestow all of your love and pity on me."

No, I didn't. Maybe you should re-read the post again.

My apologies if I got a little pissed because I felt that this thread was going to turn into something of a joke.

Wow, my emotions got the best of me. Gee, my fault on that one

I am impressed that you didn't flame me (really). :)

I would argue that you do owe it to him, though. Not to get sappy, but concern for the plight of another (particularly when that other is a "stranger") is what separates us from the animals. That, and disinterested (ie, the kind you get "nothing" out of) love and self sacrifice.

No he doesn't

I didn't ask for it, nor would I want it from him.

Again, I just had a feeling that this thread would turn away from what it was intended for.

I have nothing against him personally. I just don't appreciate his assumptions that I came on here looking for pity.

There was posts here out of line. That offended many people but I never said a word. Hence my point.

Did I come on here and say "Oh poor me, I have family that may have been affected by the hurricane. Please bestow all of your love and pity on me."
No you didn't. But I can only assume that plays a part when you react like that to something that wasn't even misplaced. I was making fun of the looters & even myself. No you're friends or anyone injured / killed in the incident. Was it off? Perhaps? Where you offended? Fine. Do you have a case to start something like this over? IMO no.

I felt that this thread was going to turn into something of a joke.
I apologise then. But it's a thread on a forum. Noone was giving sympathy. My looting joke is no worse than Andy's hurricane fetish. It's an internet thread, it's had it's share of support and sympathy. Things go both ways. Atleast we thought about it.

Though I apologise, I can be anal sometimes.

I don't want his sympathy either.

And to tell you the truth, the only thing that I care about is that my cousin and his family are safe, not what Jaecole's interpretation of my anger earlier today was all about.

Its a dead issue as far as I'm concerned.

So now, I can return to being a sarcastic asshole :D

He is a good guy.

And in hindsight, maybe it wasn't what was actually said, but what the thread had the potential of becoming if it continued.

I'm not one to hold grudges. Especially on an internet forum

You're right.

It was uncalled for, and anyone who had loved ones that may have been injured or even worse had every right to be angry.

Its not my style.

Lou, you want to get in on the NFL Fantasy Football that we're going to have??
A confession, amico mio....since the Niners slid, I haven't watched football much. Even before then, I only used to watch the Super Bowl.

I'd say my viewing loyalties are

1. Calcio/F1
2.Baseball

Gun to my head it'd be:

1. Calcio
2.F1
11. Baseball

But thanks for the offer---it really makes me feel like part of the gang here. :)

Ummm

Well, actually

We were hoping that your severe lack of recent NFL knowledge would practically guarantee whoever is playing you a victory every week. :D
