from Marotta's interview to La Stampa:

High Prices: Martinez 12 million is not expensive?
"Lazio would pay 15. Also consider that we have no other dovutomuoverci first to deliver Del Neri team ready in late July, or the Spring League games in Europe. Abbiamosuperato enormous difficulties, we met with players to sell but with high salary and that made them unappetizing. In the end we got what we wanted. "

so lazio was ready to pay 15 millions for Martinez? LOL

That's funny, this guy is in full damage control mode, the stress is getting to him. Lazio was rumored, when they were linked to the guy, to pay around 8 million. They hardly have the funds for crazy transfers, so it's easier to believe they wanted to pay 8 million rather than 15.

So what, Lazio and their paying mode should be our indicator.

By the way Diego was paid 25 mil and after 12 months he was sold for 15,5 mil, why is that, where is the explanation from Marotta.

The explanation is that Secco overpaid for Diego 12 months ago.
12 months ago the market was in a frenzy, and I'd argue that Diego was worth at least 20 million at that time, so we overpaid a bit but it wasn't anything outrageous, he could be easily worth 30 or more last year, Real Madrid and Man City screwed it up for everyone.

Why not? I'm sure that was before they got Hernanes...

That's the thing, Secco paid for those players, Moggi called them as too expensive and they were clearly high end, yet when Marotta obviously sells them at a loss he gets criticized lol.

There were a bunch of 30 and more transfers last year, not to mention the 90 million euro Ronaldo transfer and the 65 million Kaka one. The market was inflated, and Diego was one of the hyped players last year, he could have easily cost more last year, you deny this?

BTW, Lazio paid 10 million for Hernanes, a really hyped Brazilian player, I doubt they would pay 15 million for a nobody.

I don't think that Diego was overpaid, I think his actual price was 20 mil or above (one of the most creative players which was 24 years old then), the main problem is that Diego's price was increasingly dropped in the minds of Juventini after he left and after his recent statements (the one's accepted with the sour grapes sentence).

Didn't we buy Diego before all the crazy signings?
Yeah, we did. On May 26th, and then money got crazy right afterwards, with Madrid leading the charge...

It's not inconceivable that Diego actually could have cost more than 25M last season, but he also wanted Juventus badly. Many pundits lauded the timing of Diego's capture, because the market went apeshit about a week later.

But that basically means his signing was not influenced by the inflated market, does it not?

Hernanes was €13,5m.
Really? I thought they didn't disclose the transfer fee and was estimated at 10. Still, I don't believe Lazio ever offered 15 million for the nobody, Catania's president was very obvious about who had made the better offer (us).
