Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is the deadliest striker in the Premier League, opta stats have revealed.
The Mexican hitman has only played 622 minutes of football in the English top flight this season, but that hasn’t stopped ‘the little pea’ from netting eight times for the Red Devils.
That means
Hernandez scores a goal every 77.8 minutes for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side – putting him head and shoulders ahead of the competition.
Super sub Adam Le Fondre comes second on the list, with his 10 goals for Reading coming in 996 minutes. Six of those have come from off the bench, which equals a Premier League record for Brian McDermott’s star striker.
Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko is next on the list, with the Bosnian netting 11 times in 1100 Premier League minutes – meaning a goal every 100 minutes for Roberto Mancini’s side.
Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard – yet to be offered a new contract at Stamford Bridge – has scored 10 goals in 1046 minutes for the Blues. The majority of those have come in recent weeks under the guidance of interim manager Rafa Benitez.
Golden Boot leader Robin Van Persie comes next on the list, with his 18 goals coming in 2026 minutes on the pitch for the Old Trafford outfit.
Liverpool star Luis Suarez is next, with the Uruguayan notching 17 goals in 2157 minutes – the most any of the top ten have played. Brendan Rodgers has been more than reliant on his average of scoring every 126.9 minutes for the Anfield outfit.
Theo Walcott is seventh on the list, with the Arsenal winger notching 11 goals in 1400 minutes for Arsene Wenger’s side.
His total has been helped by the willingness of the Gunners chief to play Walcott through the middle, with the England international eager to prove his worth up-front at the Emirates Stadium.
Next up is Wayne Rooney, a third Manchester United striker in the top ten. Despite missing a brief period through injury, the former Everton starlet has notched 10 goals in 1294 minutes – averaging one in less than a game and a half.
Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku has been in fine form at West Brom, and his nine goals in 1171 minutes for Steve Clarke’s side puts the Belgian next on the list.
Completing the list of ‘deadliest strikers’ is Mladen Petric, with the Fulham forward notching five goals in just 668 minutes – an average of one every 133.6 minutes on the pitch.
