Lippi delays team announcement Thursday 22 June, 2006
Italy boss Marcello Lippi has still not decided on his starting XI for today’s Czech Republic tie, reports from Germany are suggesting.
The tactician was set to hold a squad meeting this morning where he would usually unveil his team to the players.
Yet Lippi has now postponed that announcement until 13.00 hours local time, leaving a number of options still available to him.
Although it is believed that he has resolved his defensive plans by dropping Cristian Zaccardo, subsequently moving Gianluca Zambrotta to the right and recalling Fabio Grosso, it is in midfield where there are some doubts.
Mauro Camoranesi is being tipped to come into the side for the suspended Daniele De Rossi, but it is unclear whether the Azzurri will play with two strikers or just the one.
Some are whispering that Luca Toni will be dropped, while others maintain that Lippi will stick to his Francesco Totti, Toni and Alberto Gilardino trident. We’ll have to wait and see…
