lippi is thinking about changing the formation and playing a 4-4-1-1 like zoff and trap did
he has tried this in the training session
zambrotta-canna-nesta-grosso
gattuso-pirlo
camo perotta
totti
gila
i think this is the best way italy can play not only this match but during all the next matches
the only thing i cant understand is how lippi thinks that gila is not just better than pippo but also better than toni

no natural left winger. Great Mr.Lippi.
I don't think he'll use that to be honest.

It seems that Gila and perrotta won't play due to injuries!...

Why not play a proper diamond shaped midfield 4-4-2

----------------- Buffon
Zambrotta -- Nesta -- Cannavaro -- Grosso
----------------- Gattuso
Camoranesi---------------Pirlo
----------------Totti
------Toni ----------Del Piero

if lippi thinks gilla isnt better then pippo then why would he start him.......that isnt our best formation right now seeing how perrotta is still not 100% and totti isnt either. Totti needs to recover and anyone who isnt at 100% shouldnt play. Del piero is at more then 100% and is playing amzaing he should start whether he will is another question.

why start Zambrotta on the right when this year he was clearly better on the left + he's not fully fit.

I think that Oddo can do the job on the right. Certainly better than Zaccardo. He just needs to make one run and put in one cross and that would be better than Zac.

We need to open with a great attacking game. Look what Ghana achieved against the czechs with that kindd of tacktic. Then we mus do like Ghana: Attack, attack and attack. We can't lay low as we did against Ghana and USA. It worked against Ghana, but we drew against a much weaker USA team.

C'mon guys FIGHT!

Alittle note in the end: Totti has not been good enough, Del Piero should start. HE showed what he can do against the united states!

I would be very surprised if Italy do not beat the Czechs and win the group. The Czechs have major problems without Koller as their play is geared up to him holding up the ball and nedved and Rosicky joining him. Baros , even fully fit, is a totally different player, talk less of when he is half fit and it all smacks of desperation. Baros is more direct and does not link up that well.
The biggest problem is Italy themselves, they ought to be more physical or be able to withstand physical exertions.
Personally I have never really fancied Gilardino and have just grudgingly admitted that Toni is a class act after his exploits with Fiorentina. But in this tournament so far Toni has been very disappointing, he does not hold up play by and bringing his team mates into play and the fact that he has not scored is probably weighing on his mind a little
Inzaghi should play as balls in the box just come to him for whatever reason and he ususally sticks em away
Then we come to Dp, yes, he is my favourite player, yes , he is probably the Italian player i admire most of all time, but he is an also-ran on the international stage. I can name and i kid you not 1000 players who have performed better internationally than he has. So it does defy belief that some guys actually think he will be Italy's saviour, thats never gonna happen, i know that. He can do a job, but with his reputation, Italy need more than that, he is like what Zizou is now for France and he has been like that for a very long time, a few flicks here and there but not a player to be feared on the international stage. 2 goals in major tournament is a very sad return from a player of his reputation and expectancy.
I am expecting Camoranesi to start but i wish he was more forceful and less hesitant in what he does, Perotta is not as talented but he offers far more energy and drive.
Defence have not been very good if I have to be honest, yes Zaccardo is a donkey but he is not as talented as his colleagues and they to have allowed quite a few chances against them which is unlike Italy

Uhhhh....we need to defend but we need to attack as well.
You surely do not want to sit back like our side did and have trouble working the ball around. Italy should come out attacking and beating the Czechs at their own game, striking hard down the wings and creating as many chances as possible.

Perhaps Lippi should use the 4-4-2 in this match just to have more presence on the wings..

Buffon

Oddo - Nesta - Cannavaro - Grosso

Camoranesi - Pirlo - Gattuso - Zambrotta

Inzaghi - Gilardino

I could see that causing Bruckner's side a bunch of problems.

I really think we need to stop thinking about the next round, and get focused on whats going to happen on thursday against the Czech's

I am getting this feeling that we may not come away from this game with a victory

I also think Baros will start this game
Indeed.

I don't care about who will Italy face in 2nd roundas much as I want Italy to qualify.

Who cares...the charges sheet of Palazzi will not be divulged until after the stock market closes and that subsequently means after the Italy matchup against the Czechs. If the Azzurri players are consumed by the thought of the sanctions against them they are only thinking about themselves and thus deserve to lose.

You simply cannot delay scandal investigations just because the players are involved in a tournament.

dude this isn't an excuse. noone is involved in this scandel's except buffon and he has said he didnt everything legal. The players got one thing to think about and that is winning. they know that and they have said that. If anything it has drawn some of the italian media away from the italian side leaving less pressure then normal on them.

THE LETTER FROM DE ROSSI
HANDED IN TO FIFA
CANNAVARO: "WE MUST WIN
WITHOUT CALCULATING"
Duisburg 20/06/2006

The declaration written by Daniele De Rossi, which will be inserted in the dossier opened after being red-carded in the match against the USA, was handed in to FIFA. In the declaration, the player underlines his sorrow for what happened and he apologizes to the players that he elbowed, to Fifa for the damage caused to the World Cup and to the Figc for the damage caused to the Federation image. In the letter, De Rossi explains that it was a reaction caused by a moment of nervousness on the competitive context. The Disciplinary Commission will now make its decision on June 23rd on the basis of the letter, the referee report and the television recordings.

If De Rossi will definitely miss the match against the Czech Republic, Captain Cannavaro is ready to lead the Azzurri in the delicate match against Nedved and teammates. "With respect to the recent events that we have taken part in, this time we have a slight advantage - explained the defender - since we do not have to wait for the results of the other teams or necessarily have to win. This does not mean that we have to be conditioned in a negative way and make calculations, we need to win if we want to be first in the group standings. I am optimistic because in the last two years we have always tried to improve match after match, showing quality football. It did not happen against the United States, but now we have the chance to fix things. We knew that our group was extremely balanced and without a clearly weak team".

Cannavaro reviews the match against the USA: "Against the United States, we were not able to impose our way of playing eleven against eleven. We were passive and surprised by their strength. I do not think the problem was concentration since, when you play a World Cup, you try to prepare the match in the best way possible and motivation is automatic. There could be some problems with recovery. Now let's think about the Czech Republic that is a team of players with a lot of experience and pride that we know well. It will be difficult because they are good at defending themselves and starting off fast in counterattacks, so we have to close any spaces". Nedved and the head, according to the captain, are the risks that the national team could run in the match in Hamburg. "Nedved has a way of playing that gives problems to whoever faces him, he is always at top speed. He gives all he can, he is an example of professionalism and has an internal force that is way above the average. I am worried about the heat and humidity since this will be the first match we play in the afternoon. In this World Cup, up until now always enjoyable and balanced, I have seen a big difference in the fatigue and pace in the afternoon matches and the evening matches".
Cannavaro launches his message: "We have to be more cynical, one of features that has always characterized our way of playing football and has always given us good results. In the last few years we have forgotten this quality, otherwise we would have won at least one European title. In any case, now we have to only think about winning against the Czech Republic. An elimination at this point would only mean failure."

Lippi expects Ghana repeat Wednesday 21 June, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Italy that impressed in the 2-0 win over Ghana will return for Thursday’s crunch Czech Republic World Cup tie, boss Marcello Lippi has promised.

The Azzurri have been heavily criticised by most after their disastrous 1-1 draw against nine-man USA, a result which has compromised their safe passage to the last 16.

Yet Lippi is remaining upbeat ahead of the Hamburg clash where his troops need to avoid defeat to make sure of qualification.

“The impressions ahead of the game are good,” stated the under pressure Coach. “They are the same as before the Ghana match.

“What Italy will turn up? The one from the first game of this tournament and those from previous matches before then.”

There has been mass speculation over the last few days regarding what formation and starting line-up Lippi will opt for, but he was giving little away this evening.

“You’ll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to see who plays,” continued the former Napoli and Juve maestro.

Football Italia understands that Lippi is considering two options. The first is a 4-3-1-2 with basically the same line-up which began the other two matches.

There is also the option of playing with a 4-4-2 with Mauro Camoranesi coming into the midfield, with Francesco Totti possibly starting as a striker rather than behind two forwards.

Other changes could see Cristian Zaccardo, the own goal villain against America, dropped with either Massimo Oddo or Gianluca Zambrotta replacing him. Should the latter get the nod then Fabio Grosso will start on the left. Daniele De Rossi is suspended.

One player who seems certain to start is Czech ace Pavel Nedved, a man who helped Lippi’s Juventus to numerous titles.

“It will be nice to take on Nedved again as an opponent,” he added.

Lippi was also asked what his future would hold if his side were eliminated from Germany 2006 by the end of this week, but the tactician was remaining upbeat.

“I’ll phone home this evening and tell them to turn my boat’s motor on, then if things go well then I’ll call again and tell them to turn it on,” he added.

“I am just thinking about the Czech Republic now and also the next stage of the competition. Having seen the others in this competition, I’m convinced we can take on anyone in Germany.”
