Italy striker Luca Toni has been dropped from the side to face the Czech Republic this afternoon, it has been confirmed.
Despite his 31 goals in Serie A for Fiorentina, the forward has been omitted for the vital Group E clash.
Boss Marcello Lippi has instead opted to push Francesco Totti into a second striker role and bring Mauro Camoranesi into the side.
It’s unclear whether the Azzurri’s initial shape will be a 4-3-3 or a more prudent 4-4-2 as the side need just a draw to progress.
Italy: Buffon; Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Grosso; Gattuso, Pirlo, Perrotta; Camoranesi, Gilardino, Totti.
