Palacio, Shaqiri and Hernanes are bench material at best.
Juan Jesus has been horrible at LB and Murillo is an unknown.
They would need to add more steel to the midfield, and get a couple of better attacking players for now that team looks at 3rd to 5th place.
Injuries can play a big part as well if you dont have players who are good enough to come up from the bench.

And he's conceded a few goals which were perhaps saveable, but I can't recall any goal other than that where he's basically singlehandedly at fault for it, other than with Handanovic even if I don't watch that many Inter games (Morata's goal against him last year being just one example).

And you responded directly to that part of my post. So yes, that did have something to do with the discussion at hand, especially considering Calciopoli is the biggest reason for the current deplorable state of Serie A.

And one thing Juve fans have been consistent on is how crap we think Serie A has been for the last 5-6 years. And when Juve was dominating most Inter, Milan, and Roma fans said much the same, that Serie A was crap. It isn't a coincidence that now that Juve is in transition and doing shitty which finally allows your mediocre teams back up to the top, that you foolish children now are talking about how much stronger Serie A is this year. It's laughable really. Juventus dominates and Serie A is weak otherwise we wouldn't is the narrative. But then we lose our 2 best players and crumble and you see these mediocre teams up at the top of the table and suddenly overnight Serie A is strong again.

Serie A clubs are certainly not at their weakest point. That was a few years back.

Handanovic is amazing as well, but Buffon is a legend and there's no question who I'd rather have playing.

The top end of Serie A is definitely at its weakest. There is no team in Serie A as strong as Juventus of 2011-2015, Roma 2013 with Benatia-Strootman, Milan 2010-2011/12 with Ibra-Silva, and Napoli 2010-2012/13 with Cavani et al. Not 1 single team as good as any of those teams this year. Has the average Serie A side gotten better? Sure. But as far top 3 clubs go, this is the weakest year in memory. There aren't 1-3 really good sides in the top 3 for the first time ever. The top end of the league is weak.

2011-12 had unbeaten Juve, Ibra-Silva Milan, and Lavezzi-Cavani-Hamsik Napoli.

Those three teams are far better than anything currently in Serie A. As I said, the average team may be better, but the top end of Serie A is by far at its worst.

Definitely agree with this, although I much prefer a strong set of top teams and screw the rest. This way CL spots are guaranteed even in transition years.

You're right in the sense that maybe Buffon hasn't been particularly at fault, but he hasn't made a positive difference either way. In my opinion.

The average side getting better makes for a much more interesting championship. There are about ten teams right now in Serie A who are really interesting to watch, and I don't think it's crazy to say that right now there are at least four teams with a shot at the title - Juve, Roma, Napoli and Inter. Serie A teams can't attract the huge names anymore, but I prefer a competitive championship to one in which two or three teams completely dominate.

It's also worth noting that with another deep Champions League run by either Juve or Roma (lol) and a decent performance by the Italian clubs left in the Europa League, Serie A will overtake the EPL's UEFA coefficient and regain the fourth CL spot for 2017-18. Obviously the system is broken and doesn't actually reflect the strength of leagues, but just something to keep in mind.

Strootman was one of Roma's best players in 2013/14, the year they finished with their record total of 85 points. Strootman, Benatia, and Pjanic were their 3 best players that season.
