I don't even like Messi and i hate his team but the constant hipster/contrarian obsession to pick one tournament or aspect of his Messi's game (world cup, his size etc.) to demean the monster of a player he is be a load of bullshit
Hipster/contrarian? Man dude is bunk, and I would take Tevez 10 times out 10 over Messi.

Nobody said anything about his WC performances or his size. Next argument.
Why you ignore me Great Uncle? I thought we had love and respect for each other?

It's a good example to show you what Messi would have to face week in, week out, physically speaking.
I agree, I can't go as far back as you, because I still have my youth. But 10 years ago players where more physical, Messi would be thinking twice when he comes across a Montero or a Gattuso. He'd get bullied.

Messi and the current generation could insane amounts of protection from referees. I was watching documentaries on Maradona and Van Basten on Sunday and the abuse their ankles got every week, christ if it happened now defenders would be in prison.

Yep. I suggested that 78' WC final (for those who never watched it) because it's beyond brutal.

There is a moment in the match where you see 4 tackles in a row that nowadays would grant 4 straight reds AND a penalty in a matter of 20 seconds. The referee? He sees nothing. Carry on.

And this was just the norm back then. There was no room for pussies, theatrics and shit like that, no protection from referees. You had to have balls of steel.

Haha yeah that's it. Haven't wrote anything on it in a while though! CK are you on twitter?
Yes and no. Yes, i had one but haven't used it in a long time. Same with Facebook, don't really care about social media anymore. But...

Here's something i meant to share with you a while ago. This was written by a friend of a friend. If you need help with some of the translating, hit me up but it's pretty straight forward, his best 10 Serie A teams from the golden age of calcio:

I wonder what Messi would do outside of Spain?

Baggio was in Serie A at its peak and owning everyone. Messi is only part of a 2 horse race over there.
Its not a two horse race given that their third best team is still better than the only decent team in Italy. Also, their teams have been doing great in Europa over the last two seasons. La Liga is currently the strongest league with two untouchable teams, one extremely difficult to beat teams and a group of decent teams followed by shit.

Messi also scores tons of goals for Argentina. And Frankly, if he can score over 70 goals a season in any top European league let alone arguably the best one, he has already surpassed the goals scoring exploits of baggio and Alex.

Yeah, no one ever actually said those things Hist continiously mentions. Maybe one troll or lunatic, but it was never anyewhere near a widely accepted opinion or anything.
I was arguing against two or 3 people at a time every time one of the stupid claims were thrown around. No one contested their claims while mine were contested. Delpiero84 and crimsonian king are arguing it now.

Blatant exaggeration. Baggio and Alex were playing in Serie A while it arguably had the best defenders that this game has ever seen and run rings around them, league where 7 great teams took part and almost equally fought for the title each season. It's not hard to be effective in a league where most defenders can't tackle, nor position themselves adequately, anticipate, etc...
There is just no comparing the statistics between both players. Messi is also the all time top scorer in the CL and he'll extend that record. Alex wasnt even the best of his generation though he was close and he didnt score the massive figures Messi does on a regular basis even in Serie B. Alex and Messi are separate by slightly less than a decade, though one struggles to score 20 goals a season while the other one averages 50.

People are seriously overrating Serie A in 90's. Yes that was one of the best leagues ever, but 7 teams competing regularly for scudetto? Give me a break, I grew up with Baggio and Del Piero as my idols, but ... running rings...come on

Well messi is like a rocket car built to smash the landspeed record, it would indeed do the job and smashed every land speed record, but I'd rather say a laferrari is the better car...

See?

But then again, it's also proven at times that messi couldn't even make any significant impact for his teams despite all the statistics would suggest that it would be impossible, examples being like when certain teams beat his barcelona (whether it was 1-0 inter or 7-0 bayern) or when he couldn't do much with his national team despite facing teams that arguably not different in qualities than what he face regularly in la liga

The same thing with cr7

Messi and cr7 statistics with barca real mainly in la liga is somehow over inflated their perceived capabilities in a way that is hard to prove, but it's clearly there if you really being objective enough
