Who are these great players in the Milanese clubs, Jem? You could only make a case for Balotelli.
The fact that in the EPL you find clubs like Chelsea, City and United (bar this season of course, but it's not the norm) competing for the title is enough to consider it a much better league, where there is only us and Roma
lol in Serie A. Then there are clubs like Arsenal which even though they don't possess a threat to the title, but they are always there and almost always have a good run in Europe. Then you have teams like Tottenham and Everton which in my opinion are better than the current Fiorentina and Inter. This is obviously without mentioning the surprise package of Liverpool, who have absolutely been rocking the EPL with their football and have managed to beat teams like Chelsea and City for the title. Where can you find all this in Italy? Sure, we are strong for this league. Too strong I'd say. And so are Roma. But that's where it stops.

Now, once again, I am not saying that these players are world class, because they're not. But they are players you'd expect to be able to rally their teams on to pick up way more points than they're currently picking up, and my point is just that when teams like Chievo, Cagliari etc. can get results against them, it shows that teams that can field plenty of very good players (in this case the milanese clubs) still have their work cut out for them in this league.
I think that says a lot about Milan's and Inter's teams rather than Chievo and the likes. Check out the lower teams stats against us and Roma. We completely destroyed them. Now of course, you could find such results in the EPL too. Chelsea lost the title race against Sunderland last week for example.
Most of those players wouldn't be starting in any top team in Europe, Jem, and you know it.

I do believe some of those players could be of interest to any top side.
As for us destroying Serie-A....
Well, we needed an injury time Llorente goal to beat Udinese at home and a superb Pirlo freekick in the 87th minute to overcome Genoa away. To name just a couple of examples. We're not destroying teams in Serie-A, we are winning because we have a high degree of quality in our squad, a great coach and 3 years of winning-experience.
Neutrals would also testify that we played a tremendous game against Real Madrid with 10 men at the Bernabeu this season, definitely deserving at least a point from that game, and we held them 2-2 at home in a match we were better than them.
I agree, though, the milanese clubs wouldn't in their current state have been able to produce similar performances against Real Madrid.
Argh, it's such a damn shame that we crashed out of the group stage. We are so much better than what that group table suggested.

Well, we are definitely in agreement that the EPL and La Liga is better. Not saying they aren't. Just a bit tired of reading exaggerated comments about Serie-A suggesting it's as weak as the dutch league or the norwegian Tippeligaen. Not saying you do that, but some members here make this league out to be lightyears behind the biggest leagues, and the gap just isn't that big. But there is a gap, not gonna argue with that.

There's no question that Serie A is no longer the best. And we all know about the money issues the league is facing but this year to me is showing some very good signs.
When clubs sell their stars to survive financially, it's very sad. But when they don't, it makes for a much stronger and competitive league. When Napoli stood Cavani but reinvested in new players, and when Fiorentina did the same with Jovetic, this to me is a sign of immense progress.
As it stands Juve, Roma, Napoli are all teams that are good enough to make it to the QF in the CL. Juve are a few pieces away from building a team capable of change challenging for the title. Roma and Napoli are a few signings away from being serious contenders in the CL. Years ago, Milan, Juve, Inter were all capable of winning the whole thing. It's not the same today so our standards for Italian teams need to change. They don't have the wallet to be as competitive as they once were. But there is a steady progress being made and that's what's important now.
Milan and Inter are going through a tough time but in the next couple of years they will get much stronger. Very impressed with Napoli and Roma as they play a more modern style of football and I really those teams can go far in Europe.

Completely agree with you on all things... but I think the fact we crashed out of the group stage has a upside to it.... We are able to win the EL now in our own stadium... Imagine that... IMO thats more beautifull than crashing out of the CL one round after the group stage against Chelsea... yes the latter would earn us more money.. but now our players have way more experience in Europe and we have a good chance of getting some silverware in our own stadium...
Next year we'll still be a bit of underdogs.. but we'll be in Pot 2 and hopefully have an even better squad depth (Menez instead of Peluso and so on...)

It's weaker than EPL and La Liga, but whether it's weaker than the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 is very much up for debate.
Sure, Bayern München is the best club in the world right now and Dortmund are fantastic, but the entire Bundesliga as a whole vs. Serie-A? One could definitely debate.
And as for Ligue 1, I consider Serie-A to be stronger.
