Kinda have to agree on all points here, btw.

You're only a couple pages late. ;)

Suspends work? Is Monday declared a national holiday in Italy where everyone has the day off? What am I missing?

Or are we just talking about the suspension of calcio, where a player -- a guy who goes on the pitch as an athletic performer who rationally does not believe that he's risking death in taking up such a cause -- collapses and dies on national television while in service to that national sport?

It's true that in auto racing the drivers merely slow down instead of suspending the race in case of a death. But just how many sports do you know where players die in the middle of play like that?

By suspend work I mean calcio. The players arent playing for the fun of it. Its a profession, a career. e

Antonio Di Natale is taking guardianship of Piermario Morosini's disabled sister. classy move by a classy player.
Really? WOW!

where did you hear that. I read the statement that Di Natale made on Udinese's behalf saying that she would be looked after but not that he was taking guardianship of her?

It was all over my twitter time line, but I just read a story that he will take care of her for the rest of her life, and guardianship wasn't mentioned. The important thing is that she will be taken care of.

I was under the impression that it was the club, Udinese, doing so.

However, if it's Di Natale himself (or in conjunction), then that's just a grandiose gesture. Absolute class act he is.

Di Natale was talking earlier to Udinese channel and he confirmed he will take care of her along with several team mates and the club officials. It's a group effort. You can read the story here http://www.udinese.it/ENG/script/view.php?id=1415

But we are not talking about highschool football. We are talking about a multi billion dollar professional sport
And we're also talking about people who aren't defusing bombs or negotiating hostage situations for a living. And yet this is a death in the line of duty.

I know it's such a North American thing to think that the financial concerns of a grumpy ticket-holder with a booked hotel room and airfare trumps the mourning and sympathies for one dead player. But IMO, I think it's much more civilized.

Two pages back in this thread, yo.

I think it must the be the shock, and more importantly, that the player collapsed/died on the pitch that is the biggest factor. It would've been very hard to digest for everyone. This is why suspension or postponement does not occur for any other players who've died tragically or unexpectedly off the pitch, say the youth league for the recently dead Laziale etc.

Clever idea. Basically a distribution chart. The Seria A one looks like normal distribution and then the Liga one is very biased to the right.

but it's not one ticket holder that's getting screwed, it's hundreds of thousands.

How can a $ value be put on a life? those ticket holders hat a day/weekend ruined and *may* have lost some money because of what happened. One person has lost their life and his family has lost someone. Who cares about anything else
