He took the contract knowing full well that if he didn't even live up to his past numbers, then he would be criticized and ridiculed for it.

The BIGGER problem is the amount of the contract offered to him, considering his history. Past Accomplishments don't guarantee future success when signing contracts. But it was very disturbing that he couldn't achieve his past above-average numbers while at Juventus.
It was a really bad deal. Not only because he turned out to be sucky, but also because the coach kept playing him week in week out. Why that is I don't know, but I can suspect it has something to do with the monetary investment. You don't discard large assets easily.

He'd be laughed at regardless of salary, so your point is void. This whole salary thing is just another attempt at deflecting criticism from the clowns that have run the club since Calciopoli.
Andy :D Yeah, as if I have stock options on Secco, ssssssh let's not say anything to make the market lose confidence in him.

How could people critsize Amauri for accepting a big contract? Show me anybody that would say NO, if they get a better job offer with higher salary. Nobody is going to say, oh no, I am not good enough for that, I would just stay where I am. Life is all about taking risks and always looking to get better. If you don't try, then you would never know your true potential. We all have potentials, and it is up to us to discover it and maximize it
