Sweet freekick by D'Agostino:agree:

On another note, the more i watch Alexis Sanchez the more i think he's a trick pony and a showboater, but not a good player. I don't think as highly of him as some do here to be honest.

Still young and needs time to mature. Remember C.ronaldo when he first went to united, he's not the same player that he is right now....

Marcello (the member) can have the last laugh here as it seems. If i'm not wrong he was the one who was strongly pro-D'Agostino when most of the others were cursing Secco when we were strongly linked with D'Agostino in the winter.
The anti-D'Agostino group had as their main argument the fact that he failed in a big club (Roma) even though they ignored the fact that he was just a boy then .(he played in Roma when he was 19yo till he was 21yo).
Tbh, the main reason they didn't want him was because they expected a world class player in MC, which is normal, but the pro-group was more practical and acknowledged that a Nedved replacement and maybe a full back will take most of the transfer budget money and D'Agostino would be a great buy, concidering how we won't have money for a wc MC and how he would replace the ballerina.

Anyway, those who followed him during the season know that he is an extremly useful player, while those who don't follow him can only look at the stats and see that he is indeed playing very well :

GOALS: 9 (2nd highest scoring midfielder in serie A, after Kaka)
ASSISTS: 6 (9th in the league)
Succesful Passes: 1545 (2nd in serie A)
Passes in attack: 974 (2nd in serie A)
Successful crosses: 51 (4th in serie A)
Intercepted passes: 88 (16th in serie A)
Won tackles: 101 (1st in serie A)

Amazing. Great in offense AND defense. The best tackler in the league, great in reading the game and intercepting oposition's passes. Great passer of the ball himself, accurate crosses, great at set pieces and very good goalscorer. And he's not old at all. 26 years.

Maybe he would have been a finer choice than Almiron, Tiago and Poulsen.
But we had the delusional hopes of acquiring quality players, like Aquilani, VDV and Alonso...

Our management though, knew it all along and have no excuses...

To be fair tho, it wasn't easy to predict that he will explode the way he did.
Yes, he was the most talented youngster of his generation, after Cassano and Gilardino, he was the playmaker and leader of the u-21 team, but he never took his u-21 form to Roma and after Roma he struggled in Messina and in Udinese to show his obvious talents, up until this season.

It's kinda similar to Pirlo's story. Pirlo was the alpha and omega of the u-21 team, the most talented midfielder Italy produced in a long time, but until he was 24 he couldn't repeat his u-21 form and he struggled in Brescia and Inter. Only as a 24 yo in Milan he finally did what everyone expected him to do. When everyone, including his team at the time, Inter, thought that Pirlo will never fulfil the expectations, Milan's managment gave him a second chance and they didn't regret it.

Of course, i'm not comparing D'Agostino to Pirlo quality wise, but they're similar kind of players and they both had a tough time for some 3,4,5 years to show their talent to the world.

Indeed, I remember that specifically too. Marceℓℓo told me to watch out for D'Agostino from the beginning of this season, and he's been absolutely correct so far. :pint: Only for the first time though! : P

Well Almiron was very good at Empoli too (and for three consecutive seasons not like D'Agostino), but he has been utter crap for the last two years. I'm puzzled with how he turned out to be so useless, in the friendlies at the summer of 2007 everyone was praising him as our best signing and he showed promising characteristics, but failed miserably. Since Fiorentina isn't buying him anyway at the end of season, what shall we do with him? He has a contract till 2012, that's why im even more surprised how impatient our board has been with him..

I think Cambiasso is playing the same position, and he's doing damn well there. Imo Diego is more needed in Inter than D'Agostino.
I do think Cambiasso's better when given freedom. A season or two ago they'd play Dacourt in the holding role and Cambiasso looked very threatening with his runs.
